Ryan Spangler looking to come home?

Huh?

Minor was an All American basketball player at OU, AND a professional baseball player. Tyler Neal might not start another game for OU in his career.

He may be battling Frischilla for blow out minutes!

Heard today he's been released at gonzaga. Take that for what it's worth.

tyler neal is a better "athlete" than ryan minor

The most baffling post I've ever seen on this board... Let me know the next time Tyler hits a 400ft. Bomb, strikes out the side for the National Championship Sooner baseball team, while also being an All Big 12 hoops player.. not to mention when he starts at 3rd for the Orioles...

I don't know if Boulder actually watched Ryan Minor play basketball. He's in the argument for the most athletic player OU's had in the last 20 years not named Blake Griffin.

Tyler Neal is a good athlete. I don't know and doubt he is a better athlete than Minor. However, I would note that people routinely said Bookout was not a good athlete and he could have played baseball for OU in a second and did throw shot. Now I think those people that said he was not a good athlete for fools but it was widely said he was not a good athlete.

It's because people don't know what it means to be an athlete. Too many folks think of athletes in terms of only being able to run fast and jump high. There is WAY more to it than that. You brought up Bookout, and that is a great example. He was an amazing athlete while at OU. But b/c he didn't run fast or jump high, people said he wasn't athletic. Boggles the mind.

No one could throw down a 4 or 5 step layup better than Bookout.

In my opinion the most important trait of an athlete is hand-eye coordination. I would then rank vision, decision making/reaction time, and quickness above speed and vertical jump. Strenth is another factor that has to be considered. You don't have to have all of these attributes to be great. KD is great but he is not strong. Kevin Love is great but he does not possess a huge vertical, instead he uses his strength and other attributes to out rebound people that jump higher than him.

i should have qualified as a run/jump athlete .. you know the type of athleticism that you need in basketball ...

and to call minor one of the best "athletes" ever to play OU basketball ... that is a joke .. he is not and would not be in the top 30 if not lower

now as a basketball player it is not close clearly ..

Thank you for attempting to get this thread back on topic

To help out with that, Like I said earlier, ones performance in their freshman yea, when playing behind so good forwards at Gonzaga (who was a 7 seed and won a game in the tournament and gave Ohio state all they wanted) is not an indication of how he will be in two years (he will have to red shirt after transferring). I used Osby as an example because he was pretty good this year, but didn't do much his first two years at Mississippi State because he was behind good forwards.

If Kruger likes him and wants to bring him in I say we trust him since he has a reputation of getting good players and winning games.

i agree Max. I view him as a Kevin Bookout style player who would be great as a 3rd or 4th post player.

I agree with that.

My personal opinion is that he is AT BEST a 4th or 5th big man on a good (ie, make the NCAA Tournament) OU team. I don't think he has the size or athleticism to really excel in the Big 12. If his best trait is rebounding, as small as he is, he probably projects to be a lot like C.J. Washington. And that is fine, so long as it's no more than the 2nd big off the bench.

I kind of think Cole was recruited to fill that role already. Not sure I really want to use two scholarships on two kids that similar, when we're needing to rebuild our roster/team already.

He was the 5th Big on a good team this year as a true Freshman, I think he could develop into at least a 3rd big if he puts in the work. But again thats why I'm not the coach, I don't have to make these decisions.

I think spangler is MUCH better than cole... If we are going on the "athleticism" thing again... He was also a D1 Quarterback coming out of Bridge Creek. Im sure is a lot more athletic and talented than you think... Better than CJ, Single handed took BC to the state finals againist 6-7 d1 players from Douglas, (although several did qualify)
I think could help this team in the long run...

i think this kid could be a 6th man and eventually a starter. he looks pretty athletic to me. his offense looks weak but that can be improved. as much as i dogged on CJ washington at the end of this year he provided some sparks and i see spangler as a much better player than washington. i say get him and tell cole sorry but your only a walk-on
