Ryan Spangler

This and Gonzaga is a better team than OU so Spangler didn't get minutes.

He's sitting right next to another guy OU wanted...Marquise Carter who only got 2 mins tonight.

Of all the guys out there...you guys are crying over Ryan Spangler. A kid that is getting no minutes on a mid major team.

If this is the best we can do...OU is never getting out of the bottom of the big 12. And comparing him to Tyler Neal is even worse. Its one thing if he was putting up Ekpe Udoh's numbers who averaged 20mpg game for michigan as a freshman...while Spangler averages only 6mpg for Gonzaga. Spangler wouldn't have touched the floor this year or even next year for OU.

You guys are constantly complaining about the crappy players that we already have and hear you are crying about not having a crappy player. DO YOU GUYS NOT WANT BETTER?

Gonzaga may be a mid-major but they have been to 14 straight NCAA Tournaments and they are competitive when they get there. Not saying Spangler is a stud but Gonzaga has been a very good team for a long time.

OU fans always cry about the one who got away. Been that way for years in all sports......

You realize Michigan hasn't been near the program Gonzaga has been the last 10 years or more. They are just recovering from the Fab Five days. Neal wouldn't even suit up for the Zags.
As for Spangler vs. Arent it isn't a question but Spangler signed in the early period with Gonzaga. It was a shame Capel didn't even recruit the kid.

I would love for him to transfer to the Sooners. By the way I watched him school Daniel Orton in a pick up game five on five but they were guarding each other. Now I don't think Ryan is a first round draft pick but he is a very good ballplayer of which we have few.

It's safe to say he's no more talented than the current roster of players AT HIS POSITION.

The kid plays forward, right? If he's all that, he can't be any worse defensively and on the boards than Fitz and he can't be any worse at scoring than Clark.

So, I don't think it's safe to say he's "no more talented than the current roster of players at his position".

He is not "all that". That is the point.

And both have upsides MUCH higher than Spangler.

Spangler has 3 more years of eligibility, which is 2 more years than Fitz. Wouldn't you agree due to this he has more upside than Fitz?

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but Fitz is so poor on defense and the boards, I just can't imagine Spangler not improving enough to surpass him.

I've never seen the kid play, but he must be pretty good or he wouldn't be at Gonzaga.

This, Gonzaga is actually a damn good program and has been for over 10 years

Yep.

And, just to clarify, I'm not arguing he is better than Fitz or Clark. I just don't think it's a slam dunk he's not any better than what we currently have at the forward position.

Osby didn't start at MSU, but he showed this year he is the best player we have.

LOL

At least you were honest about it. You might want to watch the kid play before you judge him. Guess what? Gonzaga has kids at the end of the bench that aren't very good, just like OU has for the last 20-30 years.

And OU was a better program under Kelvin, and we had bad players, on scholarship, at the end of the bench every season he was our head coach.

OU and Gonzaga aren't Duke and NC. We don't have 4 star kids taking that 13th scholarship.

I'm not really judging him. I am judging 2 starters at his position on our team and it's hard for me to believe he's not as good (in all phases) as them.

Again, maybe I'm wrong, but this is an argument we will never know unless he transfers and is eligible immediately.

WT is exactly right. In general terms there are more D1 ships available than there are quality players to fill them. For the teams below the elite level, they won't be able to attract 13 quality players.

But, on the other hand. With the possible exception of Osby, assuming that any player from a team the plays decent ball is probably better than OU's current bunch isn't much of a stretch.

How do you know he can't be any worse? I don't either. I didn't say they were better. We're arguing suck against suck (relatively speaking). Why would you not include Ro as a forward? I'm not bashing Spangler AT ALL. I just think it's safe to say (at this point, and when he was recruited) that he's not a program changer. He may end up being one, but he's CERTAINLY done nothing at this point to warrant all the love he's getting. He committed early and stuck by it...who's to say he wouldn't have gotten an offer late ala Tyler Neal. I believe he and TN offer the same amount to the type of team we all want OU to be. If we want to return to dominance, it won't be on the backs of recruits like Spangler or Neal (although they are great role players you want)...
