SAE Video Discussion Thread

Democracy leads to slob rule.. I'm a fan of litigating this issue.

People should not be made to feel bad for protecting their legal rights.

Sometimes the most moral and just thing is to NOT file suit whether you have the right or not. I have seen this literally hundreds of times in all different areas of law.

A few weeks ago I represented a kid who put a porn picture on his professor's slide show as a joke. Making a long story short the DA charged him with crimes that would require him to register as a sex offender and as a result of some clerical stuff he could have also been brought as an accomplice on federal charges.

Fortunately the ADA figured out the whole story and decided that despite having a cause to file the charges it wasn't right to do so "in the name of justice".

Just because you can doesn't always mean you should and if it takes a community making them feel bad for doing it then so be it.

The unheard group has no place in this IMO. They simply pounced on an isolated incident. Remember what they were born out of...A LIE. "Hands up, don't shoot" was and is a lie. Because of that lie, two officers were shot two days ago.

The appropriate action was taken and EVERYONE needs to move on. Additionally, I believe people need to look up the definition of the words racism and prejudice. There's relatively little racism left in this country, while there's more than enough prejudice to go around.

LOL Nobody is going to move on just because people want to sweep it under the rug. Keep digging, keep the pressure on. Relentless. Like I said previously racist white trash is on a 150+ year losing streak in the USA and they are going to lose here too.

LOTS of people have moved on. The same people not moving on in Ferguson are basically the same people who will hold onto this for dear life. We see what those type of people accomplished about 2 days ago. While there are a few decent peaceful protesters out there, the vast majority aren't out seeking any sort of justice for anyone.

So, you didn't go look the words up. Again, there's probably not been more than a handful of publicized cases of racism in the last 10 years or so. There's a lot of prejudice in this country and to selectively deal with it alienates a whole lot of people.

How is it an isolated even when it appears all of the young men on that bus knew the song or chant? It being on video appears to be the isolated event.

How often is it right for a state actor to violate the Constitutional rights of a criminal defendant? Say you are confident a defendant is guilty but the State screwed up the chain of evidence or didn't have a valid search warrant. Are you going to let the evidence in because it is the moral and just thing to do?

I think you are out on a limb here. I seriously doubt you would ever ignore the Constitutional Rights of those accused of a crime.

Don't take this as an attack because I like and respect you. I am simply pointing out a flaw I think I see in your logic.

I tent to agree with coolm. But, I tend to disagree with the legal eagles on the board in that I don't know of an inherent right to assault. From what I gather, it has not been established that a racist term constitutes verbal assault. If not, it should. Why should you feel anything but bad for offending someone with a racist chant?

you dont hafta caveat that Denver. we just disagree. thats cool.

I have some things I feel conservative about but most of the time I am rather liberal.

I am a strong advocate for the social contract and wholeheartedly believe we give up some freedoms to make society operate better. I have a right to swing my fist in a circle but it stops at your nose. There are times when freedoms impinge on one another and an actor has every right to do something but they shouldnt when all things are considered. I have seen quite a few of those instances (like the one above).

I dont expect everyone to agree with me. It's just my view. Since I am a socialist I find people disagree with me often.

The Greek system has nothing to do with the political and racial opinions of the members of each fraternity.
