Sam Houston State

Jessie was basically terrible at first but redeemed herself a bit the longer she played. She isn’t the passer and distributor that T.V. is. Perhaps that can change. We need a point guard.

Sounds like they were pleased with Tatum’s performance. I didn’t get to see the game so the stats may be deceiving.

Total team effort.

Actually I think Jessi is a better internal distributer than Tatum. I have never figured the assist thing. You toss the ball wide open player for a trey and you get an assist but an internal pass that is not right under the basket even when it results in a clear path to an easy basket is not one.

At the end of the season Jessi was running up big assist numbers. Too many turnovers but no more than most of the starters. Still you should get less turnovers from your point guard.

I actually missed Scott because I had the sound down. She looked enough like Williston that I thought it was Williston who I wondered where did she get that quickness. After I watched her prospect films I thought she was a smaller ViVi but more athletic. She could help us a lot inside if she can shed the rust in time.

I agree that Jessi makes some good passes and also she is a better scorer. We need both this year, and we need both to improve. Too many of our TO's were poor choices to even make the pass, not poorly thrown passes.
Both Scott and Bloom show promise, with Scott much closer to being able to help. Scott looked good, but rusty and overeager-4 fouls in a few minutes of PT

Would like to see a starting lineup of Murcer, Llanusa, Williams, Robertson, and Lampkin. With Gregory getting lots of minutes ans hopefully Scott when she rounds into shape.

When we force shot clock violations, we usually have Mandy, Madi, Ana, Taylor, and Tatum on the court. Gabby learning. Jessi breaks down. Lampkin hasn't got defense yet.

I think TV is doing a pretty good job of running the point, the last two games anyway. If only she had Murcer's offencive game, or vice versa we would have a steady point guard on our hands! when I saw she was rated the #23 overall player by prospect Nation I anticipated a Gabby Ortiz type of player, if not a little better at passing, which TV most definitely is. Unfortunately I've been disappointed thus far with her offensive game. This goes to show that ESPN hoopgurlz is a more reliable rating system IMO. very excited to see how Scott develops. Not quite sure if she's all of the 6'2" she's listed at, maybe an inch shorter, but that girl's got some mad game and barring injury, I imagine her only getting better! She might be exactly what we need down low. I think we will see where we really are right now when we play Drake. if we have any hope of making the NCAA tournament this year we have got to win that game!

I really don't know that one can really determine which recruiting service is best over all Hoopgurlz or Prospect Nation. As you indicated Prospect Nation had Tatum rated far higher than her potential ceiling. Conversely Hoopgurlz had Madi Williams ranked as the #4 wing and #24 player overall and that too was a big miss. Although far from as big as the miss on Tatum. Which I think in part comes from where Tatum played high school ball which was the lowest class in Texas. She played against quality competition in only limited AAU action but virtually against no quality in high school. Perhaps averaging 25+ p/g, 6 assist and 7 steals her last two season at Windthorst distorted her potential for Prospect Nation.

I think Hoopgurlz had TV ranked around #250 nationally.

Ordinarily, you might think that someone who was #23 in the Big Twelve in scoring and #9 in the Big Twelve in rebounding as a freshman was pretty good.

I think Madi is doing a good job, being asked to play out of position, and she’s a great rebounder for her size... if you look at the 4 wings ranked above her, it seems like a weak position over all for the 2018 class....

Tatum, is a bit overrated, and she didn’t face good talent in high school, but I do remember seeing her play good defense, even tho she’s not a scorer, at times she does play decent defense...

Pretty good yes. I good get for OU absolutely. Top 4 wing in the country good 1/3 the way into her sophomore season? Absolutely not. Not even close. But then where do you point the finger with regard to her development or absence thereof? I don't have the answer. Do you?

Don't expect it.

Trivia question:

What does current OU WBB have in common with the last few years of Texas Football under coach D. Royal?

Both have head coaches that are past their prime and no signs of returning to where their programs have been. Living off of the past accomplishments.
