I notice that the top 4 teams in the conference standings have all played just 7 games while the bottom 6 have all played 8 games. Anyone know why the schedule was drawn up that way - with teams not having consistent schedules? Add another game for each and it is likely some add a win, some a loss, which likely impacts the standings since one win or loss separates lots of teams..

Of course, those top 4 teams have also had very few games against each other - which by itself distorts the standings.

Basically the schedule is designed where each team play 2 conference games per week but once during the season each team gets a week off where they play only one game in a week. For example OU plays on Saturday, February 10 and does not play again until February 17. Baylor's week off was January 6-14. Texas January 13-20, OSU January 7-13 and TCU January 13-20. The top 4 teams coincidentally had the week off at the start of the conference season.

I also would hazard a guess that they want marquee teams playing each other more as the season draws to a close because of the NCAA tourney. Yes, upsets occur but the Big 12'a view, IMHO, is to get as many teams into the tourney as possible because that ensures more money for each conference member.

It's a bit of a back-assward thing, but I think it plays a part.

The real scheduling oddity is the spacing of games this year. 8 games in and OSU has played both games against Oklahoma and KSU. After 10 games OSU will have also finished the season series against TTU. OSU will not play Baylor, TCU, or KU before those 3 series have been finalized.

Oklahoma's has been a bit better so far having only repeated against OSU. TCU and KSU are coming up. Oklahoma will have finished those 3 series before playing WVU. Oklahoma also opened Big 12 play with UT and will end with UT.

Baylor has already played 2 against KSU and ISU before playing 1 against OSU, UT, or WVU. UT has not had a repeat an opponent thru 7 so far.

Big 12 also slotted Bedlam men and women against each other this year on 1/20/18 with only a 1 hour start time difference.
