The ceremony for EJ and Penzo is before the game Saturday. Glad to see it before rather than after the game. Hope Coale keeps it that way. I have been going for 18 or 19 years and this is the first time it has not been after the game.

Did anyone else think thr senior day ceremony was strange. Nothing like the other years Coale has been at OU.

Yes. It was weird. And then they’re getting beat handily and she doesn’t put the seniors back in at the end so she can take them out for an ovation. Super strange.

Very strange that the seniors were not given an end of the game send off. I think the brief senior night presentation could have been because it was prior to the game instead of after the game and they wanted to minimize the emotional distractions comments by Sherri and players could invoke.

EJ, Penzo and their families deserved a better ceremony. Coale looked like she just wanted to rush through it and get it over with. No introduction of families. No speeches by the players. No balloons released from top of LNC.

Wow. That is very surprising and kinda concerning. I've always enjoyed watching the senior day speeches by our graduating ladies. In years past, the ceremony has been stream-able on Facebook Live or something. I was looking for it on Saturday and wondering why I couldn't find it...

Last year's senior day ceremony was during an ice storm, so there was maybe 200 people in the stands, which was hard to watch because those seniors deserved better. Maybe SC wanted to avoid a situation that like? Or maybe the seniors preferred not to speak? Still very odd.

I think that Sherri is rushing through the entire season and trying to get it over with. :o

There was a time frame. They had little time before a 4:30 TV tipoff. If you will remember, there had been a men's game at noon. Saturday was a busy day in Norman, about six events.

...which, IMHO, is why it should have been after the game. The seniors deserved a better send off and the parents deserved some respect. I believe it was Penzo's mother that she was embracing after the game that lasted at least a minute or more. The mother appeared to be consoling her. Maybe the parents need a point system when their kid is done playing there.

Considering the many acts of racism (implicit or otherwise) in the US, one would think that it would not be worth the risk to do a watered down version of senior recognition considering both seniors are women of color.

There was a banquet after the game for the players, family and friends. Sherri was very complimentary of the girls and the two seniors each spoke. There was also an awesome video with many of the current team and previous teammates (Vivi, Manning, Ortiz, KK and others) each spoke about the seniors and the impacts they have had on their lives. In addition, several players from previous years attended (Goiya, LeNesia, etc)

Yep! They could've done it after the game on Saturday or after/before the Bedlam game. I remember last year's senior day ceremony was done after the penultimate home game, so it wouldn't conflict with another event.

You might remember that the entire team has been in Puerto Rico twice to help in the recovery, as well as Haiti. I don't think they feel neglected because they are Puerto Ricans. Nice try.

And as she should. There should be banquets and compliments for every senior night. Never-the-less, they should have been celebrated with their families before or after the game; whichever time would permit or select a different game. Furthermore, the fans should be able to see the presentation. It's pretty traditional for high school and college.

Kind of a slap in the face, it would seem to me. There won’t be a senior night for a couple of years, so let’s see what she does the next time we have one — if she’s still around.

OU's senior day for MBB this year and for a long as I can remember was similar to that of this year's WBB. They have been held before the game for several years but cannot recall how many.

The men have always just acknowledged the families by just mentioning their names and a 2-3 sentence comment on the player's career. It was Sherri's implementation of senior day for the ladies that was unique until this year.

What Sherri has done for the previous 22 years with her and her player's talks was not what was the norm for other basketball teams men or women based on my exposure which is extensive. Not necessarily unique but definitely not the norm.

All that I can remember seeing — and I’ve seen a lot (but not every one) — they were done after the game.

I've seen many over the years. Most every one that I've witnessed have the parents come to the court or field, present flowers, etc. There are not necessarily long speeches, but parents and the student athletes were always acknowledged in front of the fans.

Never the less...seems drastically different than past senior day events. And with such a disappointing season, it seems like this would not be the year to cutback.

I was at the both the MBB and WBB senior day presentations your highlighted comments occurred. What did not transpire as in the past was Sherri's 2 minute comments about each player and each player given an opportunity to express her gratitude.

Each player got a picture acknowledging his career at OU and a picture was taken with the player, family, coach and AD for the men. I don't recall if Joe C. was in the women's picture but most likely he was. The post game presentations of the past are far superior to this year's pre-game presentation.
