Shaka Smart turns down UCLA

No surprise. Sounds like Smart really likes where he is. He probably has a list of 5 or so schools he'd listen to, and everybody else he'll just turn town. Good for him.

North Carolina
Kentucky
Duke
Kansas
Georgetown

I believe those are the only jobs he would leave VCU for at this point.

Georgetown is on there simply because he is already so well connected to that area, he'd just be taking it up another level.

He's got a good thing going and to take the job at UCLA where they just fired a coach who has been to the final 4 3 years and who has won the pac 12...that would be hard to do. Great program but if you don't win a championship, your going to get fired.

He didn't want to get fired for not winning the national championship every year. Smart is smarter than the average bear.

If we joined the Pac-??, I would be enjoying the hell out of this and egging the Bruins on as much as possible.

"Yes, you are still the premiere college basketball program in the country."

"Yes, you will find your John Wooden if you just keep looking."

"Yes, Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul Jabbar are going to arrive on campus soon."

"Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook are NBA proof that UCLA is still a top tier program with All-Star level alumni."

Just keep going, UCLA. Fight, fight fight, UCLA :D

I guess 1 mill in Viginni and 3 in Cali does not equate. Good for him.:clap

I'm not sure he leaves from Kansas though. And I would guess Duke or UNC would open up the next 5 or 6 years or so looking at the ages of their coaches.

It's nice to see guys like him and Stevens stay put. The grass isn't always greener at the larger schools.

UCLA would have fired him for losing two-straight national title games

this is true. I think it is career suicide. The only way to make UCLA happy is to surpass wooden. They dont care about parity in the NCAA, it either 88 games win streaks and 10 championships in 12 years or gtfo

Ramona Shelburne from ESPNLasAngeles.com is now reporting that Stevens Turned down UCLA.

As UCLA goes down their list, and down, and down, and down; they will get to Capel and he will accept their offer.
