Sherri Is Getting a Raise?

In my view, a moderator's job is to police the board to keep people like me from stalking and killing Syb. Just kidding, Syb. I think.

A guy's views are his own. He/she should be able to state them. A mod's job isn't to be a booster.

Just my opinion.

Mods job is to police civility.
End of topic.

Norm thinks Sherri's doing a great job. Nothing to do with being a moderator
Norm thinks Sherri's doing a terrible job. Same thing.
Norm wants to start dropping f bombs and flame bait material, then that's an issue.

I agree. A few on here believe this board should be run the way they want it run and they even make up their own rules and are arragont enough to enumerate their own duties for the moderators. They also believe it is perfectly okay for them to say whatever they want about Sherri or the program but everyone else should quash any negative comments (especially about Sherri) and just be cheerleaders.

I don't even think anyone was being negative toward Sherri in this thread. Did some of us feel she was undeserving of a raise at this time? You bet! What is interesting is, those who attacked us have not offered any reason why they believe the raise was justified, but rather they just wanted to whine and complain about the posters who voiced a dissenting opinion. I guess that's what one should do when they have no facts to the contrary.

Actually, Norm, my contempt for the popinjays has kept me from responding as I watched to see where they came down on this. As expected, one of the leaders of this nonsense supported the raise to Lon who has done about a tenth as much for OU as has Sherri. Which do you think might reach the final four first?

If you want to moderate a generalized board, it is legitimate to have an opinion that would contrast with support for the school and its leaders. If you want to label this an OU board, it is inappropriate to use it as a "b....board" that often appears more of an anti-OU board than a pro-OU board.

I don't intent to pretend to treat the anti-Sherri nonsense as though it were logical. Sherri has three final four appearances in about sixteen years, the same as the entire history of the men's program. When this is pointed out, the cry is that women's basketball is different. You bet it is. It was closed down by popinjays who thought that any women's coach would be overpaid. The fact that you even have a program to complain about is due to one person, and you seem to think you know more about basketball or running a program than she does.

No. I won't even discuss the merits with you because I have absolutely zero respect for the sexism which this exposes. Soon enough, Sherri will no longer be here. I hope that your replacement reveals what you should have learned by now. This program is currently nothing without Sherri. She has the respect of her peers and the national media. But, she must migrate the swamps of irrelevance within her own home.

Shame on all of you.

Sherri has earned everything she gets. She took a program that barely existed to its lofty position now. I do think if she wants to get to the next level that she needs to upgrade her assistants.

She only needs to look as far as the football program to see the quick results.

Given the talent level, last season was Sherri's worst performance in her tenure. I don't think she and her staff deserved a raise this year.

That said, there might have been something in her contract required it, or maybe it was OU just deciding it wanted to do an across-the-board raises for everyone.

The way I read the article, Patty was not given a raise although her contract was extended. OU softball did remarkably well considering we didn't have a dominate pitcher, Chamberlin was out for several weeks, Kady Self was lost for the year, and Williams was injured in the World Series. I think it was remarkable that OU finished as high as they did. If anyone at OU deserved a raise, it was Patty.

Patty got a new contract after last year's championship and her salary for the 2013/2014 at $350,000 already makes her the highest paid coach in softball. As I understand it the contract she got last year has some built in increases; so the raise was built into last year's contract. Sherri's higher salary reflects the market for WCBB head coaches which is simply much higher than college softball coaches.

Apparently Joe C felt that Sherri deserved a raise. I think that is all that counts.

I would like to see how her incoming class works out before I join the poor recruiting bandwagon. It will take a couple of years because she uses a short bench. With 15 scholarship players on the roster probably 6 and maybe 7 will only see garbage time.

The Amanda Thompson class was much ballyhooed but it took at least 3 years for them to assert themselves.

AThompson and her class...AOlajuwon, NStevenson, et al...have been gone for over 4 years. Just saying!

:woot I don't know if I misspelled the word or if my Iphone self corrected it but either way, it was wrong. Good catch!

Norm, it isn't you, almost every poster on the football board uses it that way. Sorry for being the grammar police. My phone would probably correct it to "dominoes."

Exactly! The salaries are market driven as well. David Boren and Joe Castiglione are tickled pink with Sherri. I would probably guess that Mark Williams is probably the highest paid men's gymnastics coach and KJ's raise probably puts her in Top 3, if not the top, in women's gymnastics. Roddick got a sizable raise so he probably jumped into Top 10. But none of them are close to the vast majority of women's basketball coaches. I think Bonnie Hendrickson is well north of $800,000 and she has what, two Sweet 16s to her credit and about a .500 record?

You are right on, Boomer. Especially for a program that is a revenue drain on the athletic budget. However, they all lose money except football and maybe mens basketball.

Men's basketball does not make money.

Besides Kim Mulkey in the Big 12, Sherri is probably the highest paid. I have a problem with it BUT I have a problem with how much many people are paid. Even though I do not consider Sherri great at many aspects of her job, she is an ambassador for the University which increases her value, because she is a really GREAT ambassador. People love her. (also believe she is good at some aspects of her job.....just so no one thinks otherwise, thought I would point that out. And, I have no idea, she may be great at some aspects of her job besides being an ambassador. As far as getting into a big discussion of what I like and don't like, I won't, because it does not matter and is really down the list of things that are important to me. Plus, I have an opinion but it is not all that well=informed....I am not privy to anything other than observation of games and her media and what one player from the past has told me and think she really liked/likes Sherri though had a problem with some thing or some things?).

Market-driven? Partly, but not all. jmo, of course

Per Rockchalkblog.com Hendrickson is making $505,000 annually through 2018. However she did earn a $1.8 million bonus in 2009 of which $1.3 million was for merely not getting fired for cause during her first 5 years ($260,000/year). Apparently she no longer has that retention bonus in her contract.
