I LOVE Sherri and what she has brought to our program. Don't take me as not Lovin our coach. BUT, I listened to her press conference after the game and one of the reporters asked a simple and need to be asked question about only having 8 players now and if there are others on campus that could be added to help out. Sherri responded in a rather nasty manner that "the last time I checked you only need five", etc. Of course she was distressed at the injury, etc. but I was not proud of her and how she handled herself with that reporter and a SIMPLE and appropriate question. Sherri is making a million or so a year, she represents the University of Oklahoma and no matter how distressed you are you should always treat people the right way. I also am not always happy with Coach Stoops interactions with the media BUT I didn't expect this to come from Sheri.

Hope she calls that reporter and aplogizes and improves moving forward.

I thought she was great in the press conference, and it was a good answer to a question that was most inappropriate at this time.

Tango, I have to agree with you on this. I really didn't think her answer was all that inappropriate, especially considering the circumstances. I do hope maybe she can find a volleyballer, or maybe a walk on that can contribute in some way, but knowing Sherri, She will probably just march on with her healthy 8 and let the chips fall what may.

Man, this really sucks.

I imagine she's pissed, hurt, and several other emotions all rolled into one. Coaches bust a vein at these pressers all the time. I'll cut her some slack.

Timing might have been bad for the question, but Sherri needs to fill the roster. Injuries and other things happen it seems. At a school and program like OU it is inexcusable to not use your scholarships.

Again, part of your job (Stoops too) is to deal with the media, etc. She stared the reporter down and glared etc. Just have NEVER seen this from her. If you are so emotional and freaked out by a situation maybe the wise thing would have been to not do a presser at this time.

Again, Love Sherri but was just dissappointed with her demeanor. You are paid a boat load of money - do it right IMO.

This is so right. She isn't at fault for the injuries but she is at fault for not using scholarships. They aren't doing anybody any good if they aren't filled.

You guys are so full of it with your 20-20 hindsight. Just a short time ago this board was full of posts about how we needed to up the quality of our recruiting; now you guys are saying we should have filled out the lineup with stiffs just to have numbers.

Time to get behind your team.

I think this is a little too critical. We have 3 players sitting on the bench with injuries, then Whitney goes down. This young lady is the heart and soul of this program. Coaches emotions were max'd out. She rarely is curt with the media. Give her a pass on this one.

The answer was not inappropriate. It was curt and rude.

The question was not inappropriate. It was glaringly clear that it should have been the second question she should have been asked after Whitney's injury status.

You guys know nothing about reporting and journalism.

Sometimes the tough questions must be asked.

It is also a legitimate question. We can have 15 players on the roster. We've now lost 4 so far this season, leaving us 8. You can't even practice with 8 without relying more on guys.

God forbid that any more injuries occur, but it's a long season.

I understand completely Sherri's desire not to deal with the whole mess. Whitney is clearly like a daughter to her. It's terrible, it's horrible. It's sad and it's maddening.

Be upset. Cry. Be distraught. It's all very understandable.

Then do your job right. Fill the roster. Recruit better players. Answer the tough questions as well as the easy ones that always come your way.

Then when you collect your million a year everyone will be supportive.

+1

The problem is that if you pay any attention to the media you know that for the large part they know nothing either.

:clap

No question MUST be asked. It was a dumb question that was insensitive at best. If you cannot comply with the simple moral code of emotions related to that situation, remove yourself from the situation "journalist."

We do need to up our recruiting.

Probably unreasonable to expect Sherri to keep her roster full at 15 scholarship players at all times because of the complexity of recruiting and the inability to get all the players you target.

However the logic of maintaining a roster of 13-14 quality player is more than reasonable and obtainable with the proper plan in place. Unless we forget Kodi Morrison being recruited from the rowing team in 2009-10 to permit Sherri having enough players to scrimmage in practice we know Sherri's roster has been a little thin on previous occasions when trying to exist with a 12 man roster or less. Basically this is avoidable with the right plan.

Moreover a basketball school of the caliber of OU should have a recruiting strategy with plan A, plan B and plan C wherein there was a quality player available and waiting in the wings on an offer when a targeted #10-20 player is lost in the recruiting battle. To put all of your eggs in one basket is foolish when injuries, suspensions and transfers mount up. And they do mount up on occasions.

It might be as simple as targeting 2/3 players for one scholarship and telling all of them the first player to commit gets the scholarship. It is done all the time in men's basketball and football. I am reasonably certain that UConn, Stanford, Notre Dame and Tennessee practice the same only holding a scholarship for a single player when they are top 5 or labeled "must get" by the coaching staff.

I agree, The same thing is going on at Maryland they now have 8 roster players as well, but they still have the talent to win games... I understand our girls might have been worried/sad/upset when Hand went down but no way a 2-5 team she hang with us at home... Maryland lost there starting point guard on the road at Nebraska, and still won the game... This is time for Ellenberg and Hook to really step up.
