This thought has been running through my mind as the coaching search continues.

Don't get me wrong. I believe Capel's decision on signing some big name recruits with character flaws put him in too big of hole for him to be able to dig out. Instead of him hitting the JUCO ranks and filling the roster he signed some marginally talented players who will be here for four hears. Even though I liked Capel as a person I don't believe he was a good fit for OU. He had to go.

It appears to me that some coaches are possibly being scared off by the Tiny Gallon pending NCAA investigation.
:OU-logo:The only reason I really ask this question is because if we would have endured one more season of Capel the NCAA investigation would be over. At least then a new coach would know exactly what he was walking into. At this point there is too much speculation an unknown....

Ask me again after Joe tells us who the new coach is.
But I'm confident the answer will be no.

Absolutely not; I would rather suck with a new coach than suck with the same coach which is what we were going to do.

No, and here's why.

1.) Donors were jumping off the ship faster than it was sinking. After a full season with nobody in the stands, I think it would be tougher to show the fan support that could exist.

2.) Capel's recruiting class consisted of 1 player, a juco transfer who was arguably the 4th best player on a team that didn't win anything in JUCO. He's not going to to come in and change our fortunes for next year.

3.) The hole Capel was digging was just getting deeper and would set us back even further if he was allowed to come back next year.

Absoultely agree on all points. Plus, Capel's teams were never an over-achieving bunch. We were never a team that was going to win a lot of games when we didn't have a significant talent advantage. This was due to a lack of defense, rebounding, and taking care of the ball - qualities noticeably absent from all Capel teams and trademarks of well-coached teams.

No

Forget all the facts that were posted all year leading up to his firing. That's well documented on this board.

We spent double that of any Big 12 team not named Kansas last year and we most of the players we got in our recruiting were in states bordering Oklahoma. We had no recruiting class coming in. Goff is literally a 6th man at the JUCO level.

If you want me to also give you all the facts on exactly how bad we were under Capel can I go through and do that also. Capel is a good guy and I know why a lot of people here like him. But it was time for him to go as OU's coach.

Quick answer for you. No No No

Mentioning the donors begs a big question. Will the donors jump back on board with a name such as Terry Evans or Gregg Marshall???

I'm thinking some will but most won't.

I'm impressed. Not a single "Capel sucks" response so far (though I'm sure at least 20 are being typed as I hit "submit reply").

couldnt have said it better myself.

while this thread topic may be the deadest horse around right now. this is what we NEED from our next coach.

there was simply no identity from Capel. whether it was a bunch of walk-ons or JUCO's or McD AA's most good coaches can get some sort of identity out of their players. in 5 years, there was NONE. that was the most disappointing aspect to me.

whether it's Kelvin style of defense, rebounding, motion offense or Mike Anderson frenetic pace, Bo Ryan slooooowed down pace...it doesnt matter. what matter's is that your coach has some sort of plan. Capel did not.

maybe it was his time at Duke and/or trying to make us like KU, Duke, UNC, etc. where it's just a "let em play" kind of thing. unfortunately we didnt have those kinds of players, outside of BG and sometimes WW.

I think it would have made more sense to wait a year given our current NCAA issues, our roster, (Capel was going to add Grooms and Jurick) and the other jobs that are open this year. N.C. State, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia Tech are all more desirable right now, not always, but right now.

With that said, I can't say it was wrong in principle, just in practice.

Capel needed to move on, it was the best move for both parties. I will say that Capel may end up on his feet alot quicker then OU Basketball though, who knows? And if you listen to all the Sunshine Pumpers on this board OU is a top 10-15 Program and should not have to "settle" for less than spectacluar! So I am thinking that the next coach should be James A. Naismith:clap!

OK, no second guessing now. If Kruger is our coach I am going to be absolutely ecstatic!!!!

Now that we know it's Kruger, the answer is a definitive NO.

to be honest durning the year i thought he should get one more year and even at the end of the season i thought he would get one more year. But there were things that do show that there might not of been any light at the end of the tunnel. Recruiting was not going well, some players just did not show any developement in their games from the begining to the end of the year. I would of been supporting the program but another year like the past 2 would of been really difficult.
