I really haven't watched this guy play much but I saw about 10 minutes of the OSU game last night. In that time period Marcus Smart through himself on the floor 3 times. One time it was so pathetically bad that Fran actually said something about him flopping and how much he is going to get fined in the NBA.

I dont' think I have ever seen a guy throw himself on the ground like Smart did last night. One play he is breaking on a wing and gets a slight touch on the hand and throws himself onto the ground. It was ridiculous. There was no possible way for the minor contact to have caused what happened.

Another play he is banging for position with a CU play, body checks the guy out of the way twice and when the CU player gets physical back he goes flying. Again, there is no possible way the CU was strong enough to throw him like that.

I don't think this kid is going to do well in the pros. The officials and other players are simply not going to tolerate that crap. I think I would pass on him in the draft.

Well, he will obviously need to adjust his strategy in the pro's to avoid being fined. I think he will do fine in the NBA.

This isn't the NBA. There are no fines for flopping in college bball and one flop got a foul called on the other team. And Smart knows he can get away with it all day in college bball and I'm sure he knows he cant do it in the NBA. You want to pass on a winner b/c he gets fouls called on other teams by flopping.

I would pass on him because I don't think he is all that great. I view him as a second round pick. Is he Tony Parker, Derek Rose, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul. Rondo, etc. because those are high first round NBA pgs.

He shoots .323 from three point range in college. That number will go down in the pros. He only has a 1.25 assist to turn over ratio playing on a very athletic team. He has a flopping problem that is going to result in additional turn overs in the NBA. He only shoots free throws at 69%. No way I use a lottery pick on this guy. He is an average bench player in the NBA. I can trade for or sign free agent average bench players all day long.

His shooting is going to have to improve, obviously. However, he could be a Kemba Walker type of player. Walker never shot better than 33% from 3 at UCONN, but he is a high energy player who nobody (college or pro) can keep in front of them, and he does all sorts of other things to help his team. I think best-case scenario for Smart is to be a Kemba Walker type of point guard at the next level.

Which, isn't all that bad. Went from 12 ppg as a rookie, to 17 ppg as a second year player, and is at 18.5 for an improving Bobcats/Hornets team. Still shoots 33% from the 3pt line. Quick, can't keep him out of the lane, can finish at the rim, etc.

Second round pick, haha

Kenna walker is a plus athlete. Smart is not.

You don't think Smart is a good athlete? He scores, blocks shots, gets steals, rebounds, defends, etc. You can't be a "stat sheet" type of player and be a sub-par athlete.

Beginning of the 1st half he picked up dimwiddie full court and on the inbounds was bodying him up and dimwiddie made a strong jab step to bump him off, well smart went flying and corado got an easy 2 points. I know he got one call, but hopefully the refs are starting to pick up on his flopping.

Your right, Smart is none of those players. And Tony Parker is no Russell Westbrook. Chris Paul is not Rajon Rondo. Derek Rose is not Ricky Rubio.

I don't think Kemba is a fair comparison, because Kemba is so quick while Marcus uses his size and power. I think right now Smart would have to play the two guard in the NBA. He doesn't have the handles necessary to play point. I honestly think the best comparison for him is fellow OSU grad, Tony Allen. Both have average jump shots, both don't have the best handles, but both make winning plays with their defense and flopping.

Fair points. And bgrch1350 is not an OU basketball fan.

I think Marcus is a really good athlete - not sure why others disagree.

Don't know when Dinwiddie comes out, but he's the better player at the next level.....IMO. AND, Smart will get much better with the right coaching.

Maybe he will fall to the 2nd round and come back for his jr. year.:woot

I doubt he falls to the second round but that is where I would take him. I just don't see him as an NBA starter but I could be wrong. I have nothing against the kid. I have actually heard really good things about him from families with kids at Flower Mound Marcus.

Who would you take ahead of him?

Second round pick? C'mon, you shouldn't be letting your hatred of a program cloud your judgment. Posting asinine stuff like this makes the entire fan base look bitter and ignoratn.

Smart will be a top ten pick. I'll put money on that right now.

He's got a big upside with a Deron Williams body, a Deron Williams first step and good defensive instincts. That's enough for most NBA teams.

He may be only hitting 33 % from threes but he's shooting quite a ways off the line (NBA 3s) without much effort.
