Smart for real, Nash deserves an Oscar.

At one point, I think it was after M'Baye's dunk when they called a timeout, Smart was trying to draw a flop foul off of one of OU's celebrating players as he was walking down to the court to the huddle. :ez-laugh:

Do your research and then come back and tell me. Nope, he didn't have bad games, check it out. I am 52 and watched most of his home games and almost all of his others, he was unstopable. It amazes me how the "next generation" thinks that everything they are seeing is the best. HA. And the other thing, Tisdale was a 3 time All American on EVERY team and left after 3 years. And, unlike Smart, Tisdale was ALWAYS double teamed on every play and most of the time triple teamed. You really should get some video and watch what a true GREAT player is. Smart can't sniff Tisdales jock.

It seems that you can :oldwt356:

You beat me to it. After my last post, I decided to "do my research", as Vinny asked, and found a few games that were on par with, or worse, than what Smart did today.

Here is a link to his game log.

For the record, I'm certainly not comparing Smart to Tisdale.

OK, One game out of 111, WOW. And remember, Tisdale was ALWAYS double teamed and many times triple teamed, LOL. Different universes.

This thread is a joke. Give props to OU for getting Smart into foul trouble. It was the biggest key to our success. You took the guy that does everything for them and you sat him on the bench.

Smart would be starting over anyone of our guards. No reason to try and make him out to be less of a player b/c we beat him and the cowboys.

The worse call of the game was when M'Baye dunked and dropped off the rim on Smart. First Smart had to be in the circle and M'Baye was coming pretty straight down.

I was supprised with Smart's attitude throughout the game. The flailing around everytime someone touched him grew old with me. I think he is a bit immature at this point, but I am not sure if that is a reflection of his coach or his age.

For the record, the third foul on Mr. Smart was questionable at best.... I thought he had his feet set. That was a turning point.

Of course, it's possible that he would have picked up another one two possessions later, and the 'questionable calls' went both ways for most of the game, but the Sooners were fortunate in this instance.

I'm thinking it's more a reflection on the coach than anything. The napoleon complex!

You're seriously saying that Smart isn't a good player based on the one game you've seen him play this year, when he was saddled with foul trouble?

Games like that happen for every player -- even great ones. I'm not going to go through the trouble of looking it up, but I would venture to guess that Wayman had more than 1 "bad" game out of 111.

There was no question his feet were set. However, he was alwfully close to the basket. Were part of his feet inside that little circle? That was the part I wasn't sure of, and Fran didn't comment on. His entire focus was on his feet being set.

I didn't think the officiating, overall was particularly good for either team...both could claim their fair share of questionable calls.

The charge call could have went either way. I think his feet were set, but it looked to me like his upper body wasn't. He was actually trying to move his upper body to take a more "direct" charge, and in doing so, probably cost himself the foul.

Honestly, the only "bad" game offensively for Wayman was that KU game mentioned previously. However, it took so much effort for KU to shut him down that game that other OU players were available to make plays. So, even though Wayman didn't score a bunch that night, he still drastically affected the game outcome.

How WT wasn't named the Big 8 conference greatest player ever is still a head scratcher for me? Manning was a stud, but Manning didn't do what WT did game to game to game. And, Manning was 3-4 inches taller than Wayman.

BTW...Manning was guarding WT the day WT only scored 6 points.

Agreed. It was pretty clear to me that Smart, despite the fact that his feet were set, was called for the charge because he had to lean into the OU player in order to get in front of him. That's why (and when) the ref blew the whistle.

To me an even better argument is that Smart got 10 points in a bad game for him. His percentage was low but he still had 10 points in one of his worst performances on the season.

Additionally, comparing him to Wayman Tisdale is just silly. Wayman might have been the best college basketball player ever and is certainly one of them. Smart is one of the best freshman this year. There is a big difference between those two statements but that does not mean that both players are not really good college basketball players.

I think Smart is really good and wish he were a Sooner. I don't get people that insult him.

PS - My nehpew lives in Flower Mound and was in 6th grade lat year. One his buddies went to a bunch of the Flower Mound Marcus games, including the state championship. Marcus Smart notice this kid at the games and after the State Championship gave the little kid the game ball. That is a good guy in my book.

Better team won today, and we have a lot of room to grow. Nash totally faked that "elbow".

"Cam felt bad about it," Kruger said, "but if you rip the ball across and your elbow gets above shoulder-high, that's just a rule. You can't do that. Cam understood."

Nope. :ed

I don't think Dreiling was guarding him but could have been...

Unless you put the Hightower in there to say it was Hightower who held WT at bay (scoring), which may be right. Seems like he did get in foul trouble...

But I sure thought Manning was guarding him.

Good post. I agree, no reason to ridicule Smart as he appears to be a fabulous talent and plays with a lot of intensity. I like that about him. He didn't have a great game but the 3rd foul on him before HT was a questionable call, IMO. That foul had as much to do with his performance as anything we did defensively.
