Smart is DIRTY...... That is not my

When the officials were reviewing that call in the second half, you could see the Oregon player saying, "He flopped!"

Everyone who watched the game, whether on television or at the game, except the officials, knew it was a flop too.

What I don't get is where Smart comes off as one of the better players in college BB. His left hand is weak (he doesn't drive left nearly as well as Sam Grooms), his three point shot is suspect, his handles aren't all world or even close to Kylie Irving. Where's all the drooling come from? Is he that superior of a defensive player?

I feel exactly the same way. He gets lots of steals but he constantly gambles on defense. He is at best an average shooter. He won't be able to get to the basket with regularity in the NBA. He has lots of heart and a great motor but that won't get it done in the Association.

Who is proclaiming that?

He's a good scorer (not great), a good handler and passer (not great), a good rebounder (not great), a good defender (not great) - basically whoever takes him is gambling that he can turn one of those assets from good to NBA good. He's not a specialist, but he could be.

(And isn't Grooms a lefty or am I thinking of someone else?)

I'm saying that if you're an NBA point guard that can't shoot you better be able to get to the basket with great regularity and I don't see him being able to do that. Just my humble opinion, I wish him no ill will.

Exactly, he will be a gamble as a top five pick. Strange.

Smart has great basketball instincts and that let's him get positioned to make plays on offense and defense.

Blake was not the flopper in college he is in the NBA.

Plus, refs don't call fouls in the post in college. Blake (like most dominant big men in college) got ABUSED without getting a call every game. It's MUCH easier to get a call as a guard.

Glad I'm not the only one that's noticed this.

I've watched a ton of games of Blake's since his rookie season, and I don't remember him becoming a consistent flopper until his 2nd year with the Clippers. Which, coincidentally, is the same season this guy came on board... I think we all know who BG learned these gritty, hard-nosed tactics from:

Gambling constantly on defense is not great basketball instincts.

Just like most great defenders, there are three things that makes Smart really good on the defensive end....

1. He's a physical mis-match for most guys he guards
2. He has great instincts
3. He gambles some

All great defenders have to gamble some. To think of a few other OSU players off the top of my head, Tony Allen and Melvin Sanders were guys who would gamble on the steal from time to time.

But it's certainly not "all the time" and it's not the ONLY reason those guys were/are great defenders.

Smart led the Big 12 and was like 5th in the nation in steals. If he's doing purely on "gambling constantly" then he's the luckiest gambler on the planet.

Smart is a really good ballplayer. I have a hard time understanding complaints about his game. He does flop to try to get calls and isn't a great outside shooter, but he's a guy who just makes plays. He can attack the basket off the dribble and is strong enough to make plays against those he's playing against.

I don't know if he'll go to the NBA after this season or not. As an OU fan, I hope he does. As a college basketball fan, I'd kind of like him to stick around so I can watch him play some more. He's really impressive, much more impressive than when I watched him play in high school (though, to be fair, I only saw 1 game).

I think everyone agrees that he's a good ballplayer, it's just that he's been hyped relentlessly for months as the next coming of Magic Johnson. The Bedlam game at OU is a prime example. Smart has a horrible game, saddled by foul trouble, OSU is getting beat, and what does the TV network do towards the end of the game? Show a "highlight reel" of Marcus Smart plays. It was laughable.

Have yet to hear someone call him that.

I was exaggerating. My point being that the hype exceeded reality. I was watching a preview of the NCAA tournament and I think it was Seth Davis who said something along these lines, "I expect OSU to make a deep run in the tournament because they have Marcus Smart, and that's enough." **eyeroll**
