Smu/ou

Anyone watching the game.....?

Gabbi is hot from downtown....

Sherri needs to find a point guard....I think I would leave SP in and let her learn as the season progresses.

Shaina will have her shot. She needs to avoid taking that step that leads to a turnover so often. They are calling that on her and on Vivi.

Gabbi 15, Maddie 11. LaNesia has six rebounds!!

Penzo played at a time when I would have expected Shaina or Ana to be in the game. Wonder why?

I wondered that as well.......

Shaina has the ability to get her own shot.....just needs to learn that the college players are better athletes than she's used to competing against.

Good seeing Ana hit her 3’s... Gabbi also knocking down her shots, if OU can have 2 consistent 3 point shooters it’ll make a world of deference.

Vivi's 5th foul may be the single worst call I've ever seen in the LNC.

Anyone know who the guy in the white t-shirt on the first for behind the OU bench is? He was certainly enthusiastic about the game.

Overall good game. I think there was some hangover from the tough loss to DePaul.

I was very unhappy with the way OU played against SMU in their 87-75 win tonight. We beat a team without their top scorer and rebounder from last year, Senior Alicia Froling, a 6'3" Forward that averaged 14.3 points and 10.0 rebounds. Maddie was 5-13 and was not the leader we needed against the Mustangs. The Sooners won over a team with lesser talent and could not put them away until the last two minutes. Its a long drive back to Dallas tonight and I will think this one through on the way back.

Right now we are a fourth place team in the Big 12 at best in my opinion.

Give Travis Mays another year recruiting (and he can) and OU will not schedule them.

Officiating is no excuse, we need to play with more intensity at both ends.

As SMU came back, I had flashbacks to Oral Roberts. We were completely out of synch, and SMU had found something that worked. Last year, I think Sherri and Maddie thought of Peyton as the person to get us out of that. This year, we went to Maddie. Maddie must have had about five rebounds, five assists, and a couple of steals to go with her seven points in the fourth as we took the lead back from three to ten.

Shaina has to learn not to shuffle her feet. Ana looked good in the fourth. Missing two key free throws didn't help. She is about a seventy percent shooter, and those were bricks. But, her threes in the fourth were well-stroked.

We missed Vivi tonight, even when she was on the floor. We didn't move as well tonight. We may have stayed with LaNesia and Mandy too long at the beginning of the game. We sat Shaina and Ana too long before they came into the game.

We dont seem t learn who the opponents shooters are. The defense is mediocre at best and I'm not sure we know what to do on defense or how to play it despite all the talk about it from the staff. Either the staff is blowing smoke or they dont iknow how to coach it or it's not a priority.

Melissa Barlow is one of the 3 officials Mulkey said should never work again after Hypocrite U lost to Louisville in OKC!

LOL! Don’t know who that guy is but have noticed him this season. Wondered if he was family member of a player. He is quite entertaining!

Team stats are interesting.
Too many turnovers, and defense not smart tonight.
Our 3 freshmen getting lots of experience, and showing flashes of good play and then freshmen having to adjust. They will be pretty good, but are going to make mistakes.
Refs sucked, equally bad calls on both teams. Vivi fouled out on a really bad call.
Our 3 outside seniors played well, Maddie, Gabbi, and LaNesia.
It seems like coaches are using non conference games to get experience for freshmen, as, we played with all 3 in the game at the same time, and Maddie got rested (33 minutes played) when we could have used both her and Gabbi to settle us down.
Gabbi played zero as the point guard.
A win is a win, and experience will help our young players.
Adams for SMU almost ate our lunch, but she is a good player. We just didn't guard her well 1 on 1, and help defense inside was just slow enough to put us in position to foul

Defensively we miss Peyton and Gioya..no defensive stopper yet for the guards. I would expect Ana and Shaina athleticism over time to enable then to be good defenders.

The two 3s Ana hit in crunch time were big and should help her confidence.

Really disappointing how we continue to turn the ball over year after year. And players continue to not improve. Our junior shooting guard with international experience shoots(and misses) a 3 with 2:30 to go in the game, up by eight, and 27 seconds on the shot clock.
Anyone know what the ridiculous 3 minute delay was during that time out? Some clock or scoreboard issue? There are not a lot of good officials in women's ball the three tonight are 3 of the worst.

We had somewhat of an off shooting night. We came into the game shooting 52,11%, We only shot 40% tonight. We shot better from three than normal.

--Sherri mentioned that Shaina was "sped up" tonight. She had a couple of shuffle your feet turnovers. She also got stranded and bailed out a couple of times. Not her best night. Only one assist.

--Ana finally hit shots, four of six from three. But, when it seemed to count, she missed two straight free throws as they closed to three.

--LaNesia did well. But, when they closed it down, she basically threw i away a couple of times driving for a loose layup.

---Right now, the only person that we have who can take over and direct the ball to the right place at a time like tonight is Maddie. What did they say? When they closed to three, she either scored or assisted on ten straight points. Add a couple more on assists to Ana again late on a three as well as to EJ. When she gets into the middle, she can distribute. Just move and get open. She found a couple of open people for threes when she got into the middle. I think Maddie deferred to Peyton in that situation last year.

Mandy made a couple of smart plays at crunch time. Gabbi really didn't. She needs to quit driving and get to the three-point line and let Maddie penetrate and kick out.

The delay was about how many fouls Westfield had. She had four. SMU thought she had three. Sherri blamed the drought on the loss of intensity from that ten-minute delay. We never got it back, until Maddie took it.

I agree with Kim. Melissa Barlow is one I never want to see either. She made that awful traveling call against Stacey Dales when OU was making a run against UConn late in the title game.

Dales had spun around the defender and drove the baseline for a layup. It would've cut the lead to 71-67 with 2:49 left in the game. Ann Myers even speculated that perhaps Melissa Barlow had never seen that kind of a play before.

I've wondered what might've happened had Barlow not made that call.

I did at one point also have a flashback to ORU when SMU started coming back. We cannot let this happen, especially to less talented teams. We've been notorious for this in the past few seasons. My hope is that we can actually win a game against a ranked team we have scheduled in the pre-conference schedule. It seems like we can never pull off one of these big wins as far back as I can remember, even when we had the Paris twins (lost to Ohio State). I mean, we can probably beat Colorado State, but Im craving a big win over a competitive team like Oregon.

As far as this season thus far goes, in my opinion, I don't see a D1 player in Mandy Simpson. She's thus far too short to be a really effective rebounder, or maybe too slow to get into position. If we play a quick team, like Depaul, which we will several times, it looks like we might as well write Mandy off. Penso is the same way. I don't know if maybe she was quicker prior to her knee injury, but the past two years she's played I don't see any offense, not much defense, just random good passing which we haven't' utilized. I went through the schedule and put us down to winning 21 games prior to post season. I truly hope it's much higher and that our freshmen SP and AL start developing and become starters. I know they have amazing potential and I cannot wait to watch that over the next few years. I don't try to be pessimistic, and i'm sure Syrabite will chew me up and spit me out on some of these points I've made, but I have watched OU WBB the last 15 years and truly hope this team breaks out of the mold of the past several seasons, so far I have doubts.

Sybarite;
noun
1.
(usually lowercase) a person devoted to luxury and pleasure.
2.
an inhabitant of Sybaris.

See. I'm more likely to jump on you for not knowing the background of my screen name.

December 6, 2015: We beat a Final Four team on their home court, 71 Washington 68, after having beaten them in Norman the previous year.

I think it is too early to have a strong opinion on how good we will be or how good a given prospect might be. I have seen enough to think that there are styles in which Mandy may be more useful than Shaina, at least until Shaina figures out what she can do. Mandy only had five points tonight. But, her eight boards and a really good decision that lucked into a basket were essential. She needs to figure out where to be at times.

I think that last year, this team would have lost tonight's game. Our team leaders were having a "bad night." But, there is some irony in that as well. Maddie, for example, only shot 5 of 16 from the field tonight, a bad night for her. Yet, that is 31.25%. Go back and look at the career percentages of those who graduated last year. For them, that was their average night. Maddie was 3 for 8 from three, a bad night for her. Yet, that is better than any three-point shooter that we graduated. We shoot better this year.

Incidentally, Nancy Mulkey transferred to Rice, near home. Curiously, the two Ogwumike's who went to Pepperdine transferred to Rice last year and sat out last year. Nancy sits out this year. She is back home with her highschool teammates.
