is going to be the guy at point.

Positives:

- I definitely think he is the best PG on this team at finding the open man and making good passes

- Seemed to have a Cade Davis endorsement in the Baldwin article.

- Impressed me in Maui with the way that he could hit midrange jumpers

Things I hope he works on:

- Still seems very slow on the defensive end

- Finishing in lane in traffic

- Pushing the ball off of defensive rebounds

I'd actually like to see he and Calvin in the game some together. I think Newell will give us valuable minutes this year by guarding teams with quick guards. I also think Calvin can play the wing at this level.

Capel said in the article what many on here have been saying in regards to Steven Pledger: That Steve can now better concentrate on being a shooter and that Calvin and Carl will share the PG duties with Pledge playing as needed.

What are your thoughts on Blair apparently winning the job?

Absolutely bizarre handling of the point guard situation to start the season.

Totally in favor of Blair at this point invthe season. Starting to see the solidification of the roster like many have been clamoring for.

I like it, but we may as well have put him into the game against some of the scrub teams we played at the start of the season. Unless he really had an attitude problem at the start of the season, I'm not sure why Capel just sat him on the bench the first two games. Oh well...

Its ridiculous... they could have had Blair/Newell running the point and getting better from the get-go. Instead, they bench him and put the starting shooting guard at point guard for completely unknown reasons.

Thought Blair was benched mainly because of health early in the season, and it made sense early to have a more experienced Pledger start at point....

Now why Newell didnt get a ton of PG minutes a few games in i have no idea, as well as have no idea why after Blair started to play again he didnt get those minutes strictly with Newell and Capel stuck with Pledger...

I think Blair is our best option to help calm this team down, give them a solid protector of the ball and a guy that can get the ball moving...Newell better be getting 20+ minutes though off the bench because he brings a spark out of that position that nobody else has...

From what I've seen Blair is our best option at the point. He is not a good defender. But I could say that about at least half of the players on our roster. We simply do not have the athleticism, foot speed or quickness to hang with most of the teams we face. So, why not stop pretending and go to a variety of zones to hide those weaknesses?

Stare hard into your computer and you might be able to see the sheepish grin on my face. I suddenly realized I've been arguing basketball on a board full of D1 coaches. How else could this wealth of knowledge be explained?

What is the point of a basketball message board if not to give our opinions about the sport of basketball, experts on the game or not?

We should have tried to put both Blair and Newell at point as much as possible from game one. Having a guy that isn't a PG there at first just didn't make sense and probably hurt Pledger as much as anyone because he's not been shooting well.

You're right, of course. I was just being facetious. I guess my point was that there are still a few on this board who believe that Jeff Capel can coach on the Div. 1 level and will get this program turned around if given a chance. The vast majority of our posters, who I admit are probably more knowledgeable than me, obviously feel differently. They make it known in thread and thread after thread.
