Softball

Just a reminder. Last year Auburn lost the first game in the super-regional to Arizona, then came back to win games 2 and 3. Expect a battle from the Auburn Tigers.

I think she'll go with Lopez and Lowary and save Parker for Game 3, if needed.

Much like she threw Gascoigne (sp) instead of Ricketts in the WCWS.

Thanks, Syb. I just remembered the name Fagan so was thinking that was why. The thing is I thought the player was a senior last year. Yep, now I recognize the name "Carosone."

So how do their pitchers compare with Tulsa's Emily Watson and, more specifically, to Watson's match-up to OU vs Auburn's pitchers' match-up? Any opinions?

So who does Auburn start tomorrow? Also, I believe we should start Lowrey but think it will be Parker.

Finally, not that it is over, but I am feeling a little less anxious after winning the first game.

Auburn's probable starter is Carlee Carlson who threw the most games and had the most wins on their staff. Carlson's M.O. is almost identical to Martin. She is primarily a drop ball pitcher trying to force you to hit it on the ground. 45% of her outs are ground outs. K's are 20%.

Totally different than Tulsa's Watson who is a rise ball strikeout pitcher. Watson was in the top 5 in the country in both era and K's. Carlson allows about half the HR's of Watson per inning pitched.

Arizona' Mauga hits #92 and trails Chamberlain by 3. Need Arizona to win and get Mauga out of the dessert air and slow her HR production. Home runs tougher to come by in Omaha.

Of course better yet Baylor could comeback win tonight and tomorrow and Arizona/Mauga could stay in Tucson all summer.

Thanks. I wouldn't want our team to face a fresh Emily Watson type pitcher.
Not saying we would not win, just that she is really good against OU when fresh. Or so it appears to me.

Finney pitched a shut out ( I think ) against Bama. She trails UCLA after six, 1-0, on a hour-hitter.

OKC, not Omaha.

Tis' true. I quess I was just trying to take away any Sooner home field advantage they might have. On second thought I might be getting to old to keep my fingers and mind on the same page. Scary for me!

Gasso mum on who starts tomorrow for Sooners.

Missouri/Lowary did not play/pitch against Auburn in 2016. Lowary did throw in two games against Auburn as a freshman in 2015. Of course Paige Lowary, the OU junior, is not the same pitcher as Paige Lowary, Mizzou freshman. But her line against the tigers in two starts was very bad losing both games.

Innings pitched: 8.1
Hits: 19
Runs: 16
HR allowed: 1
BB: 8
WP: 2
HPB: 2
SO: 10

I think Lopez will start and Lowary will come in in relief. If I were coach that is what I would do. Use my excellent staff, rest Parker and save my heavy artillery (Parker) for the 3rd and deciding game if necessary. I think Lopez and Lowary are good enough to win it for us and their good performance this season should be rewarded by giving them a shot against Auburn.

Patty staying mum on the starter Saturday forces Meyers and staff to focus on three slightly differ game plans one for each pitcher. More of an opportunity for a Auburn mental mistake tomorrow.

Lowary lost the opening game this year against Auburn!!! They have faced her this year. I like her in relief not starting. Her ERA is a full run lower in relief. I would not be surprised to see Mendes start today like against OSU in Stillwater on the final game of the season. Remember, the combined no hitter between Mendes and Lowary to end the season. She is a ground ball pitcher and always seems composed. You get three innings then go to Lowary. However, the expectation should be Lopez.

Lowary vs. Auburn on opening day stats.

Innings pitched: 7
Hits: 7
Runs: 3
HR allowed: 2 Veach hit both of them
BB: 5
WP: 1
HPB: 1
SO: 11
Pitches/Strikes 168/108 Lots of pitches

Starting Olmos with Lowary for relief is a much better option than what we had at WCWS last year when we started Kelsey Stevens and Jayden Chestnut in relief. The offense gave Stevens a 7 run lead after the top of the second that we could not hold. Classic example of it ain't over 'til its over.

Pendley goes yard with 2 aboard, Sooners lead 3-0!!! Wodach's 1 out double was wasted as we couldn't advance her, but hey, LOVE that 3 run blast!!!
