Softball

Yesterday's late game vs. Maryland was my first chance to see our Sooners play this year. I was obviously impressed with the overall play of our freshmen, especially Aviu.

The freshman pitcher (Chestnut?) seems to throw really hard, but she hasn't learned to change speeds well yet and her command isn't there yet either. Those things will come, I'm sure.

What has happened to Brittany Finney? Is she injured/ill? She hasn't pitched and I thought she was an outstanding hitter as well.

Brit started today and pitched two scoreless innings. She was relieved by Stevens in a committee pitching day, but Stevens only pitched to three batters, walking two.

Paris Townsend, on ParisTownsend Day (her Senior Day) hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule Maryland, 11-0. Paige got the win. Self also hit her first home run of the year for OU's first run.

My two reservations about this team: we leave too many people on base. That will cost you against good teams. And our pitchers, even when they win have some difficulty throwing strikes. PP struck out 11 but ran the count up most of the time. Finney and Chestnut have a control problem right now.

The webcast is not yet begun. It is Paige vs Groenewegen again.

Nope. It is Stober. She is 2-2.

An intentional walk backfires as Stevens hits a batter to drive in the go-ahead run, 7-6. Gasso was outraged and is still arguing with the umpire between innings. The hit batsman made no attempt to avoid a pitch that was easily avoided. It was more like a changeup. Gasso hasn't been happy with this ump all night.

Groenewegen on to pitch for Minnesota.

A walk to Parker. Pinch runner, Clifton. A two run shot way out of the park in left center by Romero, and OU regains the lead, 8-7. OU has scored in every inning. Minnesota didn't in the first and fourth.

8-8 after 7

OU has hit three batters. Two scored. One drove in a run. Control.

Lack of pitching 9-8, Minnesota. I really thought Chestnut would be pitching more after California.
