Surprise. Conrad is starting. They lifted redshirt. Schultz is starting instead of Mendes.

Knighten hit a three run home run to left center in the first, 3-0.

Alo hits fifth home run in the second. OU scores three more. 6-0

Hopefully we can win out, and we should, at the Mary Nutter with wins over North Carolina and #13 Arizona. If so I think we jump UCLA in the rankings to #3. OU tied Team Japan 3-3 and UCLA lost 0-6. Also we have beaten Grand Canyon 8-1 and 10-0 while UCLA beat Grand Canyon 7-6.

Against common opponents the Sooners have looked better hitting the ball and in the circle than has the Uclans. UCLA plays #7 LSU, Missouri and Fresno State in the Mary Nutter. But we still have that bad loss against Boston U.

We are definitely off to a better start from a power perspective than last year when we hit 3 HR's in the first 10 games. This year if you count the Team Japan exhibition game we have hit 12 HR's in 10 games. Last year we did not hit our 12th HR until game #24. We have a round tripper in every game this year except the two games when we had the flu in New Mexico.

Sooners lose to Arizona 2-0 a 1 hitter by the Arizona pitcher. Parker takes the loss despite throwing a good game. She did give up a 2 run HR which has always been her Achilles heel.

UVerse Dallas, today, 647 and 648, men's baseball and both softball games, beginning at 12:30

OK. It turns out that the 12:30 game was a rerun of St. Francis/OU. The 1:00 baseball game is a rerun of Dallas Baptist OU. But, on 648, 2:30 Illinois State /OU softball, and at 5:00 Indiana/OU softball.

OU 9 Illinois State 0 run ruled (5) Paige Parker for three. Mariah Lopez for two.

South Carolina is 19-1, although they haven't exactly played anyone. They have 19 home runs as a team. Their opponents have one. Pitching appears to be a strength. Some good young, freshmen hitters supply some power.

OU did beat Indiana last night, 9--3. Conrad Parker had some control problems, and we fell behind 2-0. Lopez shut them down, and we took a 3-2 lead on a two-run shot by Alo, her ninth. We exploded for five in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead. Paige Lowary relieved Lopez and allowed three straight singles and a run charged to Lopez before she shut them down.

Two of the three singles Lowary allowed were poorly hit balls that had eyes. Those things will happen and they can cost your runs like yesterday. Against good teams in tight games that can occasionally cost you a win despite throwing the ball quite well.

Tough game. South Carolina swing the bat well. Repeatedly made good contact. The 'cocks out hit the Sooners after the first inning. Sooners left 9 runners on base after the first inning. Gamecocks had the lead run at bat in the 6th. Good win against a good team.

Sunday's game should be another close ball game. We need to take advantage of our scoring opportunities better than we have recently.

Well, it really wasn't close, but SC still has a pretty good team. The Fighting Roosters just ran up against a better one.
