Softball

What's a light tower delay? I watched the game, but had no sound.

The lights on one of the light towers in the outfield went out. They said somone backed into a generator. It look a little while for them to fix it.

That's what I assumed when I saw it, but it seemed like the field was pretty well lit when they showed it. I probably just didn't see it, though.

I kind of thought they could have continued playing too, but I'm sure it was hard for those of us watching on TV to really tell.

It was interesting to see how losing one tower could take away so much light. It was a bit dim in right field.

I thought that when Gajewski was hired at OSU I had read Gajewski had played baseball at OU. But during the game last night they said he had been the turf manager or something like that.

Gajewski did play on the last OU baseball team that won the natty, I think 1994 under Larry Cochell and was a GA in 1995. He was a JC tranfer from California also on that 1994 team was Tim Walton Florida head softball coach.

Since 2007, Gajewski has been the owner and operator of three Norman, Okla.-based turf businesses - Champions Athletic Turf (athletic field renovation), Sooner Curb and Border (decorative concrete) and Ameriturf MidSouth (synthetic turf).

Another interesting side note is Lonni Alameda FSU head softball coach is also a OU graduate. Alameda began her collegiate career as a pitcher at St. Mary’s University (San Antonio, Texas) where she led the Rattlers to the NAIA Tournament in her only season. She later transferred to Oklahoma in 1989 and played softball and volleyball for the Sooners. She was a two-time All-Big Eight selection as a first and third baseman, while hitting .359 as a senior in 1992.

I've always found it amusing that OSU, a school that offers a Turf Management degree, has a football field with artificial turf. smh,

I am also a member of Oklahoma State sports forum I periodically look on comments made before/after games. For the third or fourth time now several cowgirl fans have posted about how unattractive OU players are and how fat they are. Stating things like'well at least we get a W in the looks department' or 'at least their girls don't have to shop at DXL stores for their gear nd uniforms.' of course most of them agreed that Mendez intentially ran into their third baseman...of course.

Seeing this kind of stuff really makes me glad I am an Oklahoma alum and I have never seen such posts on this forum. Even when we lose. We do everything with a level of class far above Oklahoma State fans. I know there are exceptions but I've seen several different posters on their forum make such comments. Just blessed I'm a Sooner!!

Not that it matters, but Clifton and Romero are very pretty. I think it's just their reflexive argument they've gotten used to when losing in football year after year.

But I'm guessing they'd never fall back on the aesthetics of physical appearance when comforting themselves after a football loss. Only when women athletes are involved would that come up.

I'm a belong to a non-sports women's FB group where someone re-posted a FB post about Lauren Chamberlain's picture from ESPN. The orignal post was made by a man and here is what he said:

Lauren Chamberlain is one of the best softball players in the world, and as good a role model as any kid of any gender could ask for. She decided to pose nude for ESPN. First, if you think this is pornographic, get off my timeline. Second, here's why she did it: "I said yes for the girls around the world who might see the issue and see someone who looks like them -- someone who's thicker, bigger, not as jacked as the typical athlete -- and that could give them that boost to love their bodies. Any time I went against my body and didn't give it what it needed in an attempt to achieve a societal norm, I let myself down. Sometimes, in high school and early college when I was dealing with insecurities about my body, not eating was disrespectful to my body. Not giving it what it needs to perform in order to achieve a certain look. If we're being honest, it just became stupid at a certain point. You're after this unattainable look, this Instagram look, and it's not achievable. I still deal with that insecurity. How am I not shaped and curved like that Instagram model? But you know what? She can't hit a ball like me or move like me. She can't do what I can do.”

Kudos to Lauren!

Kudos to the man who made the post for getting it!

Kudos to all of the women on the FB board who had probably never heard of Lauren before but were impressed by her picture and her comments.

The small-minded OSU fans can go suck and egg!

I labeled it a few decades back as "Sooner Syndrome" Be aware for pukes it is terminal.
