This may have been the best weekend in a while for OU. We have needed to find an outfielder who can hit, and it looks like we may have. This weekend, Nicole Mendes has been six of twelve. But, she has also hit with power. She has two doubles, a triple, and two home runs with four RBIs from leadoff. Throw in four runs scored and a stolen base. That is a lot of production from leadoff in three games. She also has speed.
If that weren't enough, she started the UAB game, striking out the first three hitters in the first inning. Walked three in the second which, combined with a weak hit, resulted in a run. She pitched three with two hits and five strikeouts. She has now allowed two earned runs in 7.2 innings, one on a home run. She has only allowed three hits. They don't seem to hit her stuff, got a lot of fouls straight up or down, barely getting a piece of it. Parker got the win in relief.
In the two games, we had home runs by Romero and Clifton to go with the two by Nicole. Knighten is coming back. She had three very hard line drive doubles, two off the wall, one that bounced and hit the wall. She was three of six today. Romero was five of six with a home run.
