Softball

This may have been the best weekend in a while for OU. We have needed to find an outfielder who can hit, and it looks like we may have. This weekend, Nicole Mendes has been six of twelve. But, she has also hit with power. She has two doubles, a triple, and two home runs with four RBIs from leadoff. Throw in four runs scored and a stolen base. That is a lot of production from leadoff in three games. She also has speed.

If that weren't enough, she started the UAB game, striking out the first three hitters in the first inning. Walked three in the second which, combined with a weak hit, resulted in a run. She pitched three with two hits and five strikeouts. She has now allowed two earned runs in 7.2 innings, one on a home run. She has only allowed three hits. They don't seem to hit her stuff, got a lot of fouls straight up or down, barely getting a piece of it. Parker got the win in relief.

In the two games, we had home runs by Romero and Clifton to go with the two by Nicole. Knighten is coming back. She had three very hard line drive doubles, two off the wall, one that bounced and hit the wall. She was three of six today. Romero was five of six with a home run.

Due to the threat of severe weather in the forecast, Tuesday's Oklahoma softball game at North Texas has been postponed. Instead, the Sooners and Mean Green will now play April 18 at 6 p.m.

No. 13/12 Oklahoma's next games will now come this weekend as it hosts Iowa State for its Big 12 opener.

OU is #16 in the updated RPI rankings:

The Friday, Saturday, Sunday schedule of games has been altered due to weather forecasts of rain. A double-header will begin at 3:30 Friday with the second game at 6:00. A single game will follow Saturday at 11:00.

Because the softball team is off to a relative slow start that has resulted in them falling from #1 to #12 their opportunity to host a super-regional has diminished.

They need to basically win out and have 2-3 top 8 teams struggle down the finish line. Auburn who is presently ranked #7 may be one of those schools. Their pitching coach, one of Clint Myers' sons, has left the team for family reasons. That could throw a wrench into the Tigers plans to finish strong.

Like Tripp MacKay's departure threw a wrench into OU's plans last year?

Alissa Dalton entered the game as a pinch hitter, late in the game. It was her first game appearance in about 4 weeks. Good to see her back out there on the field of play.

Dalton caught the fourth and fifth. She was replacing Sparks. Apparently, Wodach is flashing a wrist brace (?)/

That's right. I missed Dalton at catcher. It appears that Lea Wodach did not play in either game today.

Really, give me a break! Somewhat different scenarios. Tripp was by JT in July well before the start of the regular season in February. The Sooners had the entire fall season and pre-season to adjust to JT. Auburn is losing their pitching coach 6 games into the conference season a very difficult time to make that adjustment. Your comparison is like comparing apples to oranges.

RF Mendes
2B Clifton
3B Romero
DP Aviu
1B Knighten
CF Pendley
SS Arnold
C Sparks
LF Hatfield

SP Lowary

Game at 11:00

Auburn will be fine with or without Myers Jr. Anyone with any understanding of the game knows that Clint Myers will have no problem coaching his pitchers and tend to his other duties at the same time.

This is obviously a temporary situation in any case. The Myers kid will probably return soon. If not, Clint will hire another pitching coach and life goes on.

Nice to see Dalton back. She's a special athlete. Like Mendez, she can play several positions. I like seeing her bat in the lineup too.

I saw in the paper where OSU swept KU this weekend after taking all 3 from UT last weekend. Are they legit or just beating up on the conference bottom feeders? I thought Gajewski was a good hire for them.

It is possible that they are coming around. But, Texas is probably overranked in the rpi at #24. They beat a couple of teams early that suggested that they might be pretty good: Missouri, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. Then, they went on a losing streak, but mostly to good teams. Mixed in are some unexplained losses like Texas State. The OSU-Texas games all one-run games in Stillwater. Kansas simply isn't very good. I don't know how they beat Baylor. They are #118. All six games were in Stillwater.

Re: Softball Commitment

Are there any weekends where OU softball and baseball are playing the same weekend, but not at the same time? I know my mom would love to catch a game, but I really want to get back over to L. Dale for some baseball, too. Last check, the guys beat ORU to go to 26-6 on the season.
