This spring Coach Geno Auriema and his coaching staff grabbed a head start on securing the top 2015 recruiting class by receiving verbal commitments from PBR #2 Katie Samuelson of Mater Dei High School, PBR #3 Dehanee Boykin of Riverdale Baptist High School, and PBR #5 Napheesa Collier of Missouri Incarnate Word Academy.

In a year after securing four backcourt players, Kia Nurse of Ontario, Sadie Edwards of Conneticut, Gabby Williams of Nevada, and Courtney Ekmark, the Lady Huskies were focused on securing the front court. With the verbal commitments of Samuelson, Boykin, and Collier, UCONN has three forwards who can play multiple positions and are interchangeable.

PBR #2 Katie Samuelson is a 6’3 forward who played this past summer on the FIBA Americas U16 championship team. She is a sharp shooter from beyond the three point line who can also score with her back to the basket. Her length and basketball IQ causes problems for her defenders.

PBR #3 Dejanee Boykin is a 6’2 athletic forward who loves to run the floor and lead the transition. She has the ability to create her own shot and knock down the three point shot, which makes her a nightmare to opposing defenders. Defensively, she can guard multiple positions and rebounds very well.

PBR #5 Napheesa Collier is a 6’2 very athletic forward who plays hard all the time. She is a handful for any defender when she is attacking the basket. This track star can guard multiple positions.

Samuelson, Boykin, and Collier, along with the 2014 recruiting class, will be tasked with continuing the winning ways of UCONN in the post Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart era.

With the backcourt and forwards addressed, look for the UCONN to add depth at the center position.
