Something is wrong

What top 10 players wanted to play for Oklahoma but were ignored and/or denied? Why were they ignored/denied? Who are yo referring to that changed her mind? Why did she change her mind?

I am asking because I honestly do not know and would like to know the history there. I have read several posts that reference the "type" of player Coach Coale recruits, but have never read what that "type" of recruit is.

Anyone, please explain this so that I know what is being referenced because I would like to know.
Me too. Just for knowledge. I am not part of this discussion.

Courtney Walker rescinded her verbal after offer and attended TAM.

Danielle Adams wanted an offer but couldn't get a visit; official or otherwise.

Danesha Stallworth wanted to visit and sign...couldn't get past the assistant. Went to Cal then transferred to Kentucky.

Sade Wiley-Gatewood wanted to transfer in from Tennessee, went on an official, then suddenly signed with Maryland and won a NC with them. She's a coach in Southern CA now and doing quite well.

Just a few!

Most of the information involving those cases is rumor, and I have never heard an account that could be called fact. Walker seemed to be a strange situation that had some rumors that didn't add up.

Gatewood did win a national title, but not with her playing much. Tolliver had taken over her role, and was the driving force in the title run. Then, didn't Gatewood also leave Maryland?

Do you actually have any facts about Adams or Stallworth? Or, have you just joined the rumor mill. You know that none of this has ever come from OU or the staff, but from disgruntled others.

Syb, I have plenty of rumors I could share, but wouldn't waste time. No, she graduated from Maryland. All coaching staffs have the choice to offer and sign whom they please. These are just a few they passed on...for whatever reason.

Edit:
Gatewood had some knee issues down the road, but was in the big game vs UCONN and made the winning shot at the last second. She has always been a gamer. OU could have used her.

Rumor or verification? Gatewood went to how many schools?

Thank you each for the info. Any light on the type of player being recruited would be appreciated too. If there is a certain type. I had read that on here before I believe a few times.

Rachel Hollivay and Alexis Prince We're also ranked pretty high and took official visits to OU much like Betnijah Laney in 2011, but Sherri and Co couldn't sign any of the players mentioned. There was Tinkle in 2009 who ended up at Stanford and Richa Jackson in 2010 who picked Duke... seems like every year OU will be in on a few kids who could come in and make a impact, and 1 or 2 of them might even make an official visit to OU, it's just a matter of Sherri signing more then she's been missing out on... Ima sure all the 2nd round exist are not helping our recruiting, our last real tourney run has been almost 7 years and we haven't won a big 12 title in about 8 or 9...

Box score of the Duke/Maryland national title game in 2006.

Gatewood?

I think the ladies program is at a stand still. I may go down even more but nothing I see right now makes me think it's on the way up. I just don't think Sherri can bring in the girls needed to reach the next level, or if she is the right person for the job. As I said before she may be great raising money and I'm sure a fine lady. Let her do that job and find someone who will coach women basketball.

You don't see Nancy Mulkey and Chelsea Dungee as something that could grow into a national title power? When you add Morgan Rich, Ana Llanusa, and Shaina Pellington to that group, I'd love to have Maddie one more year and see who can beat them.

I really hope they do

Just one more piece of evidence of someone who is way over his head in hate - and jealousy.

Gatewood
2005-06 at Tennessee & Maryland
A starter at the point guard position in eight of nine games played before coming to College Park... averaged 8.0 points, 2.6 rpg and 1.3 apg ... 12 points, four assists and three rebounds in the win over #9/9 Michigan State at the Paradise Jam ... followed up with an 11-point outing against the 10th-ranked Terps ... scored 11 points, going 3-for-4 from three-point range, and four rebounds against No. 16/18 Texas ... transferred to Maryland in January 2007 ... spent the spring semester as a member of the practice squad, helping the team prepare for its national title run.

2006-07
After sitting out the first 12 games of the season due to NCAA transfer rules, returned to the court at Loyola and made an immediate impact ... in her first appearance in a Maryland uniform, scored seven points against the Greyhounds in front of a sold-out crowd ... followed up with three-straight double-figure outings ... had a then-career high 15 points in the first game of the Terrapin Classic against UNC Greensboro, her second game back on the court ... the following day, netted a career-high 17 points against eventual NCAA Sweet 16 participant on the second day of the tournament, garnering all-tournament team honors ... set new career highs in assists (nine at Miami), rebounds (seven against Michigan State), field goals made (five against Georgia Tech), three pointers made (four vs. NC State) and blocks (two vs. North Carolina) ... 22 games played are the most appearances in a season ... a starter in both games of the NCAA Tournament.

My only point was that she was a player that could have helped OU. Who did we have that was better?

We had what Blair thought was the best point in the conference in Brown. Then, we got DRob.

Gatewood never became what she was projected, and a lot of it appeared to be a lack of focus. She transferred and thought about more transfers than anyone I remember of the era. At one time, wasn't she at USC?

Syb, I think you may be confusing her with someone else. USC? When, how? TENN and Maryland is where she attended.

IMHO, I don't believe OU took advantage of the opportunities to recruit and sign players that could help them become a consistent top 10 contender each year. After getting so close to a NC in 2002, they were on the right track and should have had at least one NC by 2010. It takes time to build that kind of program and they missed the boat, dropped the reigns, etc when they did not sign Gatewood who came to their campus on an official visit in 2005. Brown was decent but she was no where near the skilled player of Gatewood who was the Parade POY ahead of Candace Parker. That was the first of many HUGE recruiting mistakes OU made after signing the twins.

EDIT:
I found the article about the transfer.... http://newsok.com/article/2924608

No. It wasn't. Gatewood was never great in college. Who cares who the Parade POY was? Kornet was MVP of the All-American game. Doesn't always work out.

You have criticized Sherri forever. It is old. It is also a difficult sale to the sane. A Hall of Fame coach who never does anything right.

Looks to me like it shows you're a sunshine pumper, which is fine by me.

You may have to earn brownie points with SC...I don't. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just stating some facts and providing sources. I would say the same if Geno or anybody else was the coach. I hope your jaded support is somehow beneficial to you. Do you. It is what it is. :)

Have some quirky personal rights advocate take a team to court for violating team rules they agreed to adhere to and see how far he gets in court.

In general term if there is an unambiguous offer to join the team and abide by the team rules and an unambiguous acceptance to join the team and abide by the team rules you have an implied contract enforceable by law.

It is simple if a player joins a team with rules concerning how they represent the team during the national anthem they have waived the right to protest during the national anthem without being subject to discipline for violating team rules.

This is a silly discussion regarding two kids that did not violate team rules nor were they totally disrespectful to the flag. But obviously they were offensive to some. To me a simplle team rule would avoid such circumstances. Period. End of discussion!

If it is silly, why are you taking part? And, once again, this a public institution
CANNOT by contract, make someone give up any legal or constitutional rights. THAT part of the contract would be null and void. WHY do people keep arguing instead of googling or asking an attorney friend? Most people know at least one attorney.
