Sooner Trivia

Nope sorry.

I'll post the question again, so people don't have scroll through all the previous messages.

Of the players who have made at least 150 3 point attempts at OU, who has the highest 3 point shooting percentage?

Wow! It's the player that Kelvin Sampson booted from the team late in his sophomore year for "undisclosed violation of team rules" back in 2001. He was the leading Sooner scorer in Big 12 play and was dismissed after 25 games.... with only 2 games left in the regular season. He never surfaced at another college.

His name was J.R. Raymond. He actually was playing PG over Hollis Price at the time of his dismissal. Hollis had started the first 16 games of his freshman year at PG before being replaced by J.R. (J.R. had been starting at the 2). I think if he hadn't been dismissed, OU might have never recruited Quannas White at PG. J.R. was a really good player and I remember being shocked when Kelvin cut him loose ..... it had to be something really bad to get the boot just before post-season play started.

Good question! I had almost forgotten about him.

J.R. Raymond Dismissal

I was saying J.R. Raymond is the answer to the trivia question about the player with the highest career 3-point shooting percentage with over 150 makes. He shot 40% from deep the year he was dismissed, and had made 95 3-pointers the year before. The article said he was a junior when he was dismissed but he only played at OU for 2 years. The guy was a really good player that would have helped a lot when OU lost to Indiana in the NCAA semi-finals.

I am not positive but if I had to guess what J.R. did, I would say he shoplifted from Walmart after having a few other infractions.

Winner Winner! Nice job, usedtobe1.

J. R. Raymond smoked enough pot to make Terrell Everett look like Billy Graham.

If memory serves, he flunked a drug test right before a nationally televised game at Maryland in the spring of 2001. Kelvin essentially threw him off the bus before they departed for the airport.

The 2001 season was going completely off the rails early in conference and Raymond bailed us out in a "how did we win that game?" finish in Manhattan. We won 11 of our final 12 league contests after that, the loss being the blitz O-State put on us in Stillwater after the plane crash. Kelvin never even bothered to watch the tape.

J. R. Raymond. I hadn't thought of that dude in a long time. Gastonia, NC.
