Sooner Trivia

Was the instructor jane fonda

No, Fonda was too radical. She lost out to a local instructor named Sherri Andrews.

Seriously, I'm surprised more coaches haven't adopted aerobics as part of their conditioning program. Billy was an innovator in that regard, and it seemed to work. The 1988 team was one of the best conditioned teams I have ever seen. Did aerobics play a part in their conditioning? Billy said it did, but maybe he was just being polite.

Aerobics was a fairly new form of exercise back then, and it's still going strong today. My wife and daughter are certified instructors. They're physically fit, too. Wish I could say the same. :D

Ada, I don't think I ever knew Billy to lie for the sake of politeness. If he didn't like something you knew. :ez-laugh:

How many players are in the 1,000 point club?

I know, but I'll let someone else answer your question because I cheated a little to get it. Let me just say that OU has had a somewhat surprising number of players who scored 1000 or more points during their career.

You're so right, MNSooner! Billy is like an open book when it comes to being blatantly honest about where he stands on nearly every topic. That's one of the things I have always admired about him.

I think I read about the 1000 point players in an newsok.com article about the alumni game. I remember being surprised at how many there were. Maybe 45?

Correct. 39 until Cam joined it thus year.

It's also interesting to note that 5 of the 40 are members of the 2000 points club. I'll list them below in the order they're ranked on the career scoring chart:

Wayman Tisdale
Jeff Webster
Tim McCalister
Darryl "Choo" Kennedy
Stacey King

I haven't answered a question but here's a good question for Sooner hoops historians.

What former Sooner great used his long arm to reach down the throat and pull out a 3-inch bolt from the 2nd stomach of a dolphin? The dolphin had accidentally swallowed the bolt at Marine World and the ex-Sooner hoopster was "recruited" for the task because of his extraordinary reach.

That's a great question, usedtobe1! I have no idea of the answer, so I'll throw out a name of a tall player from many years back - Alvan Adams. I was originally thinking of someone like Longar Longar, but would like to think that if it was him, we would have heard of it by now since he was more recently with the program.

I am going to guess Stacy King

No, it's not Alvin Adams.

Hint: He was sought out because his arms are 45" long!!

Don Sidle?

Here's another hint. Following the heroic feat, this former Sooner great was named Man-of-the-Year by National Geographic and invited to the White House. His efforts also prompted a children’s book, “Saving Dr. Spock.”

Yet another piece of trivia.... Most or us remember that Wayman Tisdale was an acoustic guitarist, and played as a jazz musician after retiring from the NBA.

Hint: This former Sooner player graduated with a Fine Arts degree from OU and one of his hobbies was playing the clarinet. Here's a quote from him: “I was great friends with Marvin Gaye and he was one of my favorite human beings. He used to call me up and sing songs to me, saying, ‘I’ve got a hit!’
