Alvan Adams of the Phoenix Suns had 47 points, 18 rebounds, and 12 assists in a game against the Buffalo Braves who eventually moved to San Diego then LA to become the Clippers. I can't find if he scored any more 40+ point games. He probably did but I can't find them.

Harvey Grant when he was with the Washington Bullets scored 41 points against the Hornets in 1992.

Wayman Tisdale scored 40+ 3 times in his career. I can't find the dates on those and who they were against.

One near 40 point game was Mookie Blaylock with 39 points.

Blake Griffin now has 2 40+ point games.

Baring serious injury, Blake will go down as the best NBA player from OU

Good stuff, Nick!

I agree with Max's observation about Blake. If he stays healthy, he could set a lot of records before he's through.

Adams, Tisdale, and Blaylock in that order are the 3 Sooners with 10k or more points from OU. Tisdale has the best average so far at 15.3 point per game. Blake will probably shatter that.

Wayman suffered from going to the dang loser Pacers through the draft. He could have had a much more heralded NBA career but for that misfortune.

That said Blake is still likely to be the best NBA pro ever from OU.

He just might go down as the best NBA player of all time. I realize that is an extremely high bar but Griffin is off the chart good.

dang I thought mookie did it at least once, doesn't get much closer then 39.

Mookie had 39 against Cleveland in 96. So, he's 1 point away.

In trying to find Stacey's career high I ran across the following quote:

"I'll always remember this as the night Michael Jordan and I combined for 70 points"

Jordan scored 69 of those points. Stacey has a good sense of humor. :ez-laugh:

King's career high is 21. I can't find Gar Heard or Cliff Ray's career high but they weren't high scorers.

You can probably guess from my username what my thoughts on Wayman are. Wayman had a "solid" NBA career - nothing to look down on. However, to blame the Pacers for him not being better than he was is a bit over the top. Wayman never became a "great" NBA player because he put a lot of time and focus into that "other career" :) It literally had nothing to do with which team drafted him.

Nick, thanks for bringing back some great memories. Here's one more. What is the most famous single NBA play which involved a Sooner? It's actually on every top 10 list, and I never get tired of seeing it or hearing Brent Musberger's voice. If you haven't watched it, please do. It's Gar Heard's near halfcourt buzzer shot in the '76 Finals which sent the game into triple overtime. That game is the NBA version of the '71 OU-NU "Game of the Century."

One more "fun fact" about NBA Sooners. There has been at least ONE NBA Sooner for the past 40+ seasons...I'm guessing only Kansas can make a similar claim from the Big XII.

I would bet Blake would match that if he played in Wilt's day and age...
but that's a discussion for another time and place, and one that can never be proven or disproven.

I was going to answer Gar Heard's shot because when I was looking up his career high, it mentioned this shot. I'm too young to remember it, though as I was only 5. I wasn't much into the NBA back then other than liking Dr. J and the 76ers because of my brother (who liked them too).

To your 2nd point...I would agree. Probably only KU from the big 12 can make a claim like that, although Mizzou would be very close, too.

And yet Wilt isnt considered as the best player of all-time....by many at least

I personally think the best ever were the Big O and Magic. Many will say Jordan and some may have other opinions but those two were off the chart good. I think Blake Griffin can be that type of player. He is essentially in his third season after high school, playing small school basketball. I don't think we have remotely seen what Blake can do. I will certainly be pulling for him.
