Sophomore Class

nope they were not .... 9 teams were at large and seeded lower ..

but they don't want facts ..

I am fine with facts.

There are reasons that OU was selected over other at large teams. I don't deny that.

But a team at 7-11 in conference making the tournament doesn't happen very often and use to be unheard of.

And I stand by my comment that I don't think we deserved to get in. I said it at the time and I say it now. I"m glad we did, but I don't think we deserved it.

And the year we made it with trae was strictly because of Trae Young. The tourney wants stars in the tourney. We played amazing the first half of the year. By the end of the year, we were not one of the top 30 whatever at large teams.

It is a fan's job to be a fan. Being a fan means following the team and discussing the team.

It is not a fan's job to pick the next coach. I don't have the time, resources, or want to do a coaching search.

I do have the time and want to discuss the lack of program success and the plateau the program is on with Kruger

So making the tournament 7/9 years, FF, SS, is not to the standard of OU basketball & lacks success? Making the tournament and winning a game the past 3 years (OU didn't get a chance last year) is beneath OU basketball?

Konkol - never won conference USA in 5 years, also finished 8th & 9th his 3rd & 4th years. Never been to an NCAA tournament.
Smith - I actually like, but to your own argument he has no experience in this area.
Rice - been at boise state 10 years, won conference once & team has slid the past 2 years.
Haith - lol

So you would let Kruger go, when he's got about 2-3 years left & has been consistent in the tournament, for one of these guys?

Boise State is a horrible basketball job with absolutely no history. Under rice they have done a good job.

Only MWC school with five seasons of at least 11 league wins.
Only Boise State head coach to amass eight 20-win seasons

And they are 10-1 this year with their only loss being to Houston.

So far this year they are #2 in MWC in offense, #3 in defense, #1 in scoring margin, #1 in FG defense, #3 in rebounding margin, #4 in offensive rebounding, #1 in turnover margin, #1 in assist/turnover ratio, #2 in assists, #2 in steals...

He's not my first pick, but I would interview him. Seasoned coach. Good success at a terrible basketball program. And he's very critical of attendance. He does all sorts of goofy stuff in the community to try and increase attendance at home games. Like wading across the Boise River, riding horses across campus to get people in the stands and get attention, vowing to get thrown out for celebrating if they get a big win if its sold out, lol.

Guys who are good producers at crap basketball programs is a key indicator for me.... If you can win at Boise State, you can win here.

Yes. Stop living off of buddy hield. It was 5 years ago. The last 5 years has been below OU basketball.

Or we can keep going on this path and never recover. Y'all want a new arena? That aint happening with a losing conference record every year.

I'm not going to waste my time with OU basketball if the university itself is fine with where the program is. I have more important things. I'll keep up with the scores on my phone, but that is about it. And I won't think twice about getting tickets

So the 5 years after Hield OU made the tourney 4 times. I don't see how that's below the standard. I get people was FFs & SSs but that doesn't happen very often at a football school.

Want a new arena? lol you better start finding donors that care about OU basketball. That's not a success thing, that's a priority thing.

Boise has only been to the NCAA Tournament twice, both under Rice

If it's such a bad job why has he been there 10 years? Why hasn't some other school pulled the trigger? Bringing in a 57 year old who has no P5 experience & no regional ties or familiarity doesn't jump out to me as a good hire.

Come on man..... Barely snuck into the tournament. Some of these teams were within ONE game of not making it. Constantly on "last four in" or "last 4 out" kind of lists. Finishing below .500 in your league.

Making the NCAA Tournament is not the thing at OU.... We haven't been competitive in the league. At no point since Hield has OU been in a position to win the league, win the tournament, or make noise in the NCAA Tournament.

OU is treading water again this year.

Also most of those seasons we barely sniffed the top 25. You get so much more exposure when you're in the top 25. If you are outside the rankings you are barely an afterthought on ESPN which makes it that much tougher to recruit.

Again, I am not saying he is my first choice. I said I would interview him.

And I posted realistic targets. If I got to just hand pick someone, I would choose Matt Painter. But I have a hard time believing OU can hire Matt Painter. There are other coaches who are solidified in their program that I would like, but again, I doubt OU could get them.

My favorite coach in the country is Matt Painter.

They never finished "last 4 in".

They got 3rd last year in what was again the toughest league in the nation.

They won a game in the tournament last time it was played and were really competitive with the national champions that same year.

I'm not asking who you'd interview, all those guys I don't think would be a bad hire (except Haith). My question is would you let Kruger go for any of them?

In a heartbeat. Kruger is a great guy, and a very good basketball coach. He has had success and should be remembered fondly... I just think he's gone stagnant with the program. His recruiting errors have come back to haunt him, the product on the floor is kind of meh, and OU is getting passed by other programs.

Sometimes its just time for a change. I think now is one of those times.

I'll take making the tournament every year as stagnant.

If just making the tourney is your goal then ok.
I think we should aim higher.

You will get more donors if you win.

Being competitive in your league is far more important.... OU isn't going to win a national championship with the players we have either. OU has never won a national championship. The goal of the NCAA Tournament is to win a National Championship. And there are all sorts of little "mini goals" in there as well. Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4, etc.

But that's a one game deal... You can't define the success of your program by whether or not you get into a tournament that 68 other teams get into.

OU should be in a position to threaten to win the league. If OU isn't doing that, it's failing as a program. If you threaten to win the league, you will be in the Top 25, you will make the NCAA Tournament, you will put more fans in the stands, and you have legitimate chances to cut down nets and all that.

It's all about the league. Lots of average-at-best teams make the NCAA Tournament. Anyone who ranks that as the pinnacle of success isn't thinking clearly.

Did they get more donors for a new gym after Sampson or Kruger's FF runs?

My candidates:

Eric Konkol - LA Tech
Craig Smith - Utah State
Leon Rice - Boise State
Frank Haith - Tulsa

Frank? You already died on that hill.... dude is below avg with ncaa baggage! You lost that fight already!

For the at-large bids I 100% disagree.
