Spurs or the Heat

Micky Arison has given Pat Riley the ok to bring in Carmelo Anthony to create a big 4. If Lebron, Bosh & Wade opt out the Heat will have the most cap space in the league. We'll see if Carmelo goes for it. They will all have to sacrifice a little salary.

I have always promoted a similar concept for football. Pay your O-line more than any other team and convince your RB, QB and WR they will make up the difference in endorsement deals.

Does anyone think the Spurs will win tonight?

I think Miami will be extremely motivated and win tonight.

not a little ... melo would be giving up 100 mil ..

I'm guessing that number includes the year he'd be "missing".

It isn't fair to include that. I've never understood that. He'll get that money on his next contract. It isn't like that year simply disappears.

And 100M seems a little high, even without that.

Not even close. As WT points out the main thing he would be giving up is the hypothetical 5th year. But the players have learned they would rather have opt outs after a couple years than the longer term deals so that's a moot points unless he gets injured. Let alone the fact that the players are very likely to opt out of this current crappy CBA in 2017. All the studs will want an opt out of their contract that year to sign bigger deals.

It's possible Wade will accept less than the other 3 since he's older and has some knee issues. Let's say Wade takes a Duncan deal around $10 million/year. If the total was $65 million for all 4 and Bosh, Lebron & Carmelo were equal they would start at $18.3 million each. The max Carmelo can make is $22.4 million so he would be giving up $4 mil/year over 3 years or around $12 million to be on the dream team. Very likely he could make that up in endorsements.

Agreed.

Oh, and I think Miami will probably roll tonight. Home crowd. Desperation. Good spot for SA to let their guard down.

IF SA can find a way to win though, they'll win the series. I know that isn't really going out on a limb, but they aren't going to lose three straight, especially with two of those at home to clinch.

Another unbelievable performance by the Spurs! Who could have predicted a total beat down two games in a row on the Heat's own floor? Certainly not me.

You can turn out the lights on the Heat. This series is over.

It has been fun watching this Spurs team play. They're one of the best team offenses in NBA history.

I thought SA was better last year too, they just weren't shooting it well (especially Ginobli).

Wade isn't the player he used to be, and Bosh is a bit overrated imo.

The Spurs just have better players outside of James. The Heat are relying on too many guys that just aren't threats to score. Chalmers. Cole. Anderson. Even Lewis to some extent.

The Spurs are just a really well put together team.

Granted, I haven't watched the heat all year but they kind of remind me of the THunders offense.

Totally agree. It's not just that the Heat lost at home, but the way they lost has to be embarrassing. Total domination. The Heat's PG play has been pathetic. LeBron looks like the only player who is good enough to play for the Spurs.

This series shows the huge disparity between the Eastern and Western Conference teams. The Thunder and Clippers could kill Miami, too. Maybe even the Rockets and Portland.

your right i shouldn't coun't the 5th .. year ... but only using 4 .. he is giving up between 40 and 50 mil .. to go to miami .. and i don't think that is happening ..

Heat look dazed & helpless. Even Lebron looks a step slow. We did see a glimpse of this ball movement by the Spurs in the second half of game 6 vs the Thunder but this is an extra gear. Just marvelous dominant basketball. You won't see a team play better.

I was totally guilty of just taking the Heat for granted. Looks like they took themselves for granted too!! Not that it would matter the way the Spurs are executing.

Show your math. I'm like boca, I see about $4-5M loss per year, which over a 4 year contract isn't 40-50M.
