Few would have seen that coming two or three years ago since that program, along with KSU, had clearly surpassed Oklahoma. And he even won the Big 12 tournament!!!

You can't win 2 games. There is no surviving that.

Fred Hoiberg just stunk it up at Nebraska. I bet they bring him home, which is what they wanted all along.

To be clear, my post was sarcasm. In no way did I believe that those two programs surpassed ours, especially KSU.

Hoiberg will be their first call I’m sure. Just what the conference needs is Iowa state to be really good again...

Hoiberg should have never left Ames.

It was interesting that McDermott was great at UNI, lost at ISU and now wins big at Creighton.

Hoiberg hasn't been fired, has he?

Yeah, I never understood that, either. The Bulls must have offered so much more money that he had no choice. Still, from what I'm reading, he's not even on ISU's radar this time around...and who could blame them? He's got a worse job at a school which has never won an NCAA Tournament game...and not making any of the Nebraska fans forget about the glory years of Danny Nee (sadly, I was being serious).

It must be the campus / city as to why ISU cannot maintain upper-tier Big XII status in men's hoops. They EASILY have the second best fan base in the conference...that should be worth something to recruits.

The Mayor got cross with the administration in Ames. He thought the hoops program was being nickel and dimed too often for the amount of success he was having. It was a messy divorce, and the Cyclones fanbase was none too pleased that their favorite son wasn't property feted. It will probably be difficult to extract him from the Huskers. For all the pub Freddy garnered as a player and coach in Ames, he was actually born in Lincoln.

Soon.

Cookie belcher ain’t walkin through that door.

Absolutely no way that Nebraska fires him.

Not only would that be a monstrous contract to swallow, but it'd be idiotic. Nebraska is a bottom-dweller basketball program, and it wasn't going to turn around in 1-2 years, especially with COVID. Take a look at Underwood's tenure at Illinois and tell me with a straight face you should write off a coach after two years.

I agree it would be way too early. That job is a turd sandwich. I just wanted to use the cookie belcher reference!

Completely fair -- I do not discourage Cookie Belcher references. I'll have to admit, though, that at first glance I was thinking about Cookie Miller.

ISU got their guy. UNLV coach.

Talk about irony. Caleb Grill transferred from ISU to UNLV after last season because the UNLV coach was the guy he originally wanted to play for out of high school. Now his coach is making the opposite move.
