Sure am glad Kruger wanted Spangler

I think there is a difference between being offered and having interest from colleges. I'm sure Spanglers mail box had letters from KU and so on.

Exactly. I don't doubt that at all. But there is no way he had better offers than those four. And three of those four aren't/weren't anything to write home about.

So, we have two guys that don't have the 1st clue about what offers Spangler did or didn't have and they continue to argue about what offers Spangler had or didn't have.

If you are saying we are wrong, prove it. If he had offers from 15 very good BB schools, there would be some proof of that somewhere. Show me that proof.

I too followed his recruitment a bit. He didn't have those offers.

LOL, SHM, all the other little internet acronyms... I'm sure the guy who grew up with or near Spangler, who actually knows, will feel the need to dig all this stuff up(however that would be) just to prove you wrong, over his holidays. At this point who really cares. You win WT! Good job buddy! You feel better now? Again, thanks for the laugh!

I don't care where he grew up.

I remember the recruitment, and there is ZERO chance that Scout, Rivals, and ESPN would none have a single mention of an offer other than those four. If he had BETTER offers, there'd be mention of it somewhere. Surely one of those basketball schools would have been a better fit than Gonzaga, right? One of Spangler's quotes after his commitment to Gonzaga was "you don't let an offer like that go by." Pretty telling about his other offers, if you ask me.

Obviously A LOT of college coaches missed on Spangler, whatever the reason. That was my point.

Many coaches that could have used him did miss on him. But, only one of them was 10 miles down the road.

Gonzaga was the third of four scheduled official visits for Spangler, having already been to Tulsa and Colorado, with a trip to TCU set for this weekend. He was up to 22 official scholarship offers, though none from Oklahoma or Oklahoma State. But he said he wasn’t bothered by their lack of interest.

So he had all these awesome scholarship offers, and didn't even plan to visit ONE of those schools?

Geez guys. I get the Capel hate. I get that we're all glad Spangler is playing for OU now. But let's not rewrite history.

First of all, you have a limited number of official visits you can take, and from the start, since OU did not show interest in him, he wanted to go to a winning program, which I think Gonzaga fits that profile. If you followed his recruitment, as you say you did, then you will also know that Creighton, which I would say i a pretty good program, also offered. Since its apparent you did not follow the recruitment to close, give Coach McDermott a call and ask. There were as I said, alot more that evidently you where not aware of and I am sure there are some I did not know about as well, but the only ones that know for sure would be Ryan and his family and for the rest of us that think we know, we are just guessing.

lol. Creighton. Kind of proves my point.

Not to mention, that is one "decent" bball school. Not 15 very good ones.

This should probably best be addressed in a private message, but it's been bubbling for quite a while now....so I'm going to go ahead and just put it out there for public consumption.

I don't post much here any more, but I do read quite a bit. 90% of the arguments and disagreements on this board start with the condescending attitude of WTSooner. This thread is a small picture, but it has beat me upside the head many times in many places.

A few weeks ago the word was that Tyler Neal might be called upon to play the point a little bit in Hornbeak's absence. A poster brought forth this information. WTSooner shot him down. Guess what? Tyler started getting a little run at the point in practice.

Last year, garyeb2 started posting about major changes in the lineup based on what he's seen in preseason practices and scrimmages. Who is there to belittle him and his insight? WTSooner.

I simply don't understand it. Are you trying to be condescending? originalsooner55 has absolutely no reason to lie about having very close knowledge of Spangler's recruitment. As a matter of fact, I'd bet he has much more knowledge of the situation than the Oklahoman beat writer who put a nugget of info about Spangler's choice of visits in a column he wrote while sitting on the john taking a dump.

These are my two cents and, like I said, they probably should've been shared by PM. I chose to do it publicly because if I read you wrong then I'll take my lumps and do better with my posting style. I want this to be a very friendly board with lots of open discussion because places like this foster passion for the product, a product I'm very passionate about supporting.

We need EVERY single fan we can get because support is at a low I never thought possible, and I don't want a single person to be turned off to OU BBall because of a cruddy experience on a message board. Perhaps I'm too sensitive, I'll wear that tag, but your posts often times appear to be dreadfully condescending. Maybe bringing it to your attention will help tone it down a bit.

Amen- could not have said it any better

I don't think WT is trying to ooze condenscion. While I don't always agree with his points (though often I do), he offers valid counter points to the large amount of sunshine pumping and revisionist history that happens on this board. His posts often encourage discussion, instead of everyone trying to find news ways to say the same thing.

He offered Tyler Neal the year before and Tyler has been terrible the last 3 years.

And James Woodard is looking pretty good at Tulsa. How come Kruger didn't pursue him very hard or at all...he's right in his own backyard.

Yes he is and Coach Kruger thought he was a good player but liked Buddy, Isiah and Jelon more than James. He really chose Buddy over him because the other two had to play the point some last year. Hard to fault his choice. James has been very good for Tulsa and would have helped us.

Splanger is better than every big recruited by Capel except Blake and Romero.

Gonzaga has been to the NCAA Tournament for 15 consecutive years. They have made the sweet 16 five times since 1999. Most kids say good things about the school they select. The only schools that have been to more consecutive NCAA Tournaments than Gonzaga are North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan State. Only KU, Duke and Michigan State have current consecutive NCAA appearances of more than 15.

I don't see how his comment is telling about his offers in anyway.

I'm glad that Spangler plays for the Sooners. In spite of not really having the size to play the 5, Ryan does a good job. He's solid on defense, and does a good job on blocking out for rebounds. He also doesn't force up a lot of bad shots. He's very fundamentally sound and plays smart.

This.

Maybe these posters that know Spangler have a different definition of "very good" bball schools but to me, Creighton isn't one.

I think most people will see that if he had better offers than Gonzaga, TCU, Colorado, that they would be listed on his espn, rivals, scout, etc page

simply meaning if he had 15 very good offers he would have picked the best one based off of that quote.
