T.J. Taylor to Marquette

People complained about that with Sampson but he replaced guys pretty good if they left too soon. Not only did we lose guy after guy under Capel we never really replaced those guys well. If you look at the top 10 players in the Capel era. About 6 or 7 of the top 10 are probably Kelvin Sampson left overs. Neal, Carter, AJ, Taylor Griffin, Godbold, Crocker, and Longar; and the guys Capel got were Blake, Warren, Cade then you have a huge drop off. TMG or Gallon would probably have to come next.

On another board, it was reported that after his concussion he failed a drug test and Capel made him redshirt for it, and TJ didn't care for this amount of punishment, became a malcontent and then left. I don't have any confirmation of this but just reporting what I read on another board. This guy acted like he knew this for a fact, but you know how that goes.

I saw a Capel interview where he was asked about TJ and he just avoided answering the question, so who really knows. I know several guys that said he was a really good player and would definiately have played this last year based upon his summer and fall camp pre injury. I was really looking forward to watching him. It is disapointing that it didn't work out.

I wish the kid all the best.

There were reports that he was not well tended to following his concussions, that he was all but ignored by the coaching and training staff and generally left to his own devices at what was a difficult time for him.

I have no idea if those reports were true, but if they were, I felt at the time and still feel that they were as bad a reflection on Coach Capel and Co. as any accounts of his tenure in Norman.

But again, I'm not claiming they were true. I have no idea.

I believe it was one report, that got repeated in posts like this, gradually morphing into "reports." It's laughable that anyone would think our coaches -and training staff - would suddenly ignore a player they had just enthusiastically recruited simply because he got a concussion.

Capel got fired. He deserved it. No need to keep repeating stuff like this.

I didn't bring it up to trash Capel. Someone asked why TJ left. I cited one explanation that had been offered, stating all the while that I didn't know if it was true.

So, in a word: relax.

It's apparently fine to traffic in all kinds of rumors about former players on this board, but cite one story (sorry about that extra "s" in "reports", which seems to have caused you all kinds of consternation) about Capel, and you're labeled a mudslinger.

This.

Who cares about this kid? He was beat out by Newell and Blair before he was injured.

He was not good enough to beat out guys that went 5-11 in the Big XII. We saw the video and he was slow footed and non athletic.

I would hope that a guy that couldn't play in game 1 with a concussion was beat out by those two. He got the concussion the first week of preseason individual workouts. Good God you just like to run your mouth.
