In a reverse psychology sort of way, I kind of wish we'd just tank the rest of the season, hit rock bottom and be forced to face the reality that this program is headed in the wrong direction and has been for several years.
I'm not talking about throwing games. I'm just saying ending up with a losing record, poor Big 12 and no major post-season tournament, might be a good thing.
Unless we bottom out (which we are very close to doing anyway with the way I see the rest of the season ending up), I don't think Sherri or Joe C. will do any deep dive into figuring out what's wrong with this program and fixing it.
Bottoming out, I believe, might lead Joe C. to use a more critical eye to determine the status of the program, staff, players and performance. Dwindling attendance has to be concerning to him and donor and fan support isn't likely to get any better unless something is done.
I think it might lead to him to put some level of ultimatum on Sherri -- do something different now or after next season you're out -- or something. Now, if I think that ever happens, my guess is that Sherri retires because I don't think she adapts to change very well -- or ultimatums.
But this program is in free-fall and something has to be done and it has to start with Sherri dramatically changing verything she does, starting at the end of this season.
I do think she needs to fire and replace some staff and kick some girls who are underperforming to the curb in some fair way.
