Terry Evans meets with OU regarding coaching vacancy

I will say this about Terry Evans:

Joe C. missed on the baseball hire a few years back. When Mean Gene Stephenson turned around and went back to Wichita, Joe was forced to go with his last ditch option, Sunny Golloway. That worked out pretty well.

I wouldn't be excited about Terry Evans, by any means. That said, I'd give him a chance.

Courtesy interview or is Joe C on the verge of tapping out?

I'd be more excited about Evans than a lot of names that are being thrown about. I think he'll struggle initially, big time actually, but he might turn into something. I worry about our talent level though, as he recruits OK hard, and there just aren't many OU-worthy players that come out of OK in the average year.

I agree.
I don't think Evans will impress many recruits outside the state of Oklahoma.
He's going to have to prove he knows what he's doing on the sidelines for a couple years, and if the wins come, so will the recruits.

hopefully joe is just being nice...we would be the joke of college basketball if we hired a DII coach with no DI experience

He just seems like a guy who would recruit pretty hard, like a guy you would like to play for. We need to remember that the basketball recruiting budgets for OU are a little more than that of of his current employer................

It makes it a little easier to recruit out of state...........

If we are down to our fourth or fifth choice, I say give him a chance, he surely could not be any worse than Jeff.........

All these so called interviews as of late, are just courtesy calls untill G.Marsall finishes his run in the NIT !!!Go Sooners!!!

At least he is psyched about the job. Seems like he's the only one. :(

TERRY! TERRY! TERRY! TERRY! TERRY!

YES JOE!!!

IMO if we can't land coach K or Bill Self than we try to land...

Buzz Williams or Brad Stevens. If we can't land guys like that than we might as well go with a guy we want here for the long haul. I don't like the idea of a mid major guy IN HOPES that he will A: win games and B: love his job with strong commitment C: not court other jobs suggesting his tenure is temporary at best.

That's not exactly the way it went down. Sunny was set to be named the coach when Enos made the call to Stephenson. Now there were a lot of guys who turned down the job before they got to Sunny and who knows maybe he was the last ditch option, Joe C had to know he wouldn't say no, but it's not like they went with Sunny because of the Stephenson fiasco and yes it has worked out pretty well.

You know what, let's just freaking hire this guy. Instead of going after some of these other clowns with baggage who might be here 4 to 5 years before either dying, getting fired, or moving on to their "dream job" let's hire the guy who WANTS the job the most and will fill up the arena with his style. C'mon Joe C, it's time to make the move. This guy wants to be here forever. No more "east coast connection" mumbo jumbo hires.

Probably talking to him about being assistant or in operations. Would be smart to bring him in as something. Could help with recruiting Oklahoma. If for head coach, it is courtesy only....

Never seen one of his teams play, anyone know what kind of offense/defense he uses?

Any chance we wanted Buzz but buyout was too much given the money we owe Capel... And Terry was plan B all along but needed to give appearance that we exhausted all options?
