Terry Evans meets with OU regarding coaching vacancy

Probably talking to him about being assistant or in operations. Would be smart to bring him in as something. Could help with recruiting Oklahoma. If for head coach, it is courtesy only....

exactly!! He would be a great assistant!! then maybe down the road he could be the head coach

You know what, let's just freaking hire this guy. Instead of going after some of these other clowns with baggage who might be here 4 to 5 years before either dying, getting fired, or moving on to their "dream job" let's hire the guy who WANTS the job the most and will fill up the arena with his style. C'mon Joe C, it's time to make the move. This guy wants to be here forever. No more "east coast connection" mumbo jumbo hires.

i'm about to that point too unless Joe has somebody in mind that nobody has thought of.

This "story" has no substance. I would hope our AD would give someone like Terry Evans some face time to explain where, if at all, he fits in the future plans of OU basketball. You don't just ignore Terry Evans because he isn't someone near the top of your list.

I'm one of those that wouldn't be upset with a Terry Evans hire but understand why Joe C. can't really afford to make that move at this point in time. There will be a time where Joe C. can offer the job to Terry Evans and you sure as hell don't want to burn that bridge before then.

no way in hell. That just screams desperate. If he was truly plan B he would have been hired as soon as we knew buzz wasn't happening.

No....that would be so silly....you would/are crippling any coach's chance of recruiting anyone this spring...I believe it is someone that is still coaching, or someone that has a really good agent and is struggle with salary talks....and there is always the option that we have a coach and we are keeping it quiet until he hires all of his assistants

I understand what you're saying but would you rather some mid-major coach come in and suck for 4 years? Care to wonder where our program will be then? Hiring Greg Marshall does not equate to automatic wins over Terry Evans. IMO Greg probably is the better more respected candidate but I doubt he'd do much better than Terry Evans. That's just where we are with our candidates at this point. It's either a huge gamble with a guy like Terry Evans or a little less of a gamble with a guy like Greg Marshall. At least with Evans you get a guy who wants to be here and has an undying LOVE for the University and knows/understands the lackluster fan support we have here. He knows how to get around that and he plays Billy Ball!

I guess if Bruce Weber wants to come to OU then maybe we go with him but something tells me Bruce is a douche and we'll be firing his @ss in 3 or 4 years anyway. As a matter of fact we will MOST LIKELY be looking for another coach in 3 or 4 years at this point just judging from what appears to be a tragic list of candidates. I don't see any guy out there that screams HOME RUN safe hire... might as well take a chance with Terry who has won EVERYWHERE he's been and is Sooner bred with ties to Billy Ball and the great Sooner tradition.

I've been thinking and posting for a week now that I think there is a good chance we will end up hiring a Krueger/Webber type and try to bring Terry in as an assistant. Almost a head coach in waiting but with less drama than our friends down south. Let him cut his teeth a bit and help with recruiting etc..

I would not be against this and this sounds plausible...I like terry but not as the head coach right now...hire him as an assistant then bring him on down the road
