Terry Evans meets with OU regarding coaching vacancy

Mike Gundy is not a great coach. We all should hope he stays at OSWHO forever. He is 0-8 against us.

I don't know if Mike Gundy is a great coach or not, great is probably too strong of a word, but he is doing things at OsU that have never been done before. It's kind of like the Bill Snyder argument. Do you have to win something to be considered great or do you realize how much he did with so little and where they came from?

Right now I'd settle for a pretty good coach. There aren't many great ones out there and they aren't coming to OU.

You hire Evans and bring Billy Tubbs on board as a special consultant to the basketball program. Don't think Terry would mind that.....but not sure.

I say give Evans a chance. Give me a guy who wants to be here, not someone we have to beg to come here. How much worse can our team get than the previous two seasons?

So he hasn't coached at the Div I level. Does that mean he doesn't understand basketball? No. Does it mean that he doesn't know how to recruit? No.

Will he get overwhelmed? Yes, but everyone gets overwhelmed when they step into a new job. Don't you think that a guy who wants nothing more than to coach at OU for the rest of his life will figure out how to stay there? At the very least, he'll work his tail off.

I say give him 2-3 years and see how he does. If things are just horrible after two seasons, cut him. If some "can't miss" "homerun" coach comes along, change staffs. It's not like Evans will be making a lot of money the first season or so.

Personally, I think that his connections to Oklahoma will ensure that he gets enough talent to compete with most Big 12 teams. Further, he'll get players that want to play for OU and are willing to work for a couple of years before they see the floor.

This is the problem with fans today...you need more than 2-3 years to get a program rolling, especially one that is down such as ours. Compound the fact our league is only getting tougher, it is a steep uphill climb. If Joe C hires someone and then lets them go before his first full recruiting class graduates (this year's class doesn't count), then I'm going to be ******.

Now if there are NCAA or legal troubles, that is a different ball game.

Why would we want to burn our Terry Evans card, now? One of the biggest complaints about Capel was that he was learning on the job. Terry Evans would be the same way. Is our fan base going to be patient through 2-3 years of growing pains?

Why not bring in an experienced guy to build OU back to respectability and then hand the reigns to Evans, when the program is in much better shape? I feel like we would be doing a disservice to Evans by bringing him in now.

How did we miss Evans' Edmond to Norman flight on the flight tracker?

Not a bad idea. I would feel better about that than turning Terry loose on his own.

Sherri Coale is pretty successful and she was a High School coach. Give the man a shot. I think the other names being thrown around are just as questionable. I'd rather get Evans than overpay a mediocre D1 coach.
