Sounds like he interviewed for the job on Friday, and is now a serious contender. As an OU and TU fan, this makes me very happy. I don't think he is as "sure of a thing" as some other options, maybe, but I think he has a higher ceiling. Sounds like Sutton and Manning might make up the top 3.

I would love to see how Terry Evans can do at TU. He would recruit real well in the state, plays a fun style, etc. I think he would be a great fit.

OU fans will go nuts if he puts TU in the tournament before Kruger, lol.

Anyone else think that might be the perfect hire by TU for OU? By that I mean that Kruger probably won't last for more than 5-6 years, IMHO, and that would give Evans experience at the D1 level. By the time Kruger is ready to retire, Evans would have the requisite experience and a real track record to look at. If he wins at Tulsa, he'd have to be on OU's list, and if he doesn't, then OU will have dodged a potential bullet...

Great point and hope that all come true. Terry's a nice guy and really loves OU. Success at Tulsa would certainly prove that he can get it done at least to a certain extent.

As a big Sooner fan and a passive TU fan, an Evans hire would get me fired up about TU for the first time in a long time.

Per the Tulsa World Scott sutton has withdrawn from consideration for the TU job. Al Jerkens says he has three separate sources that tell him that D. Manning is a "very serious" candidate.

I'm glad Sutton is out of the mix, but Danny Manning?

EXACTLY! IF he can coach a lick and improve that team, he'll be out of Tulsa before you bat your eyes! If they hire Manning I think that would be a big, big risk!

Manning is one of the best post coaches in the business. His post players always improve tremendously.

The question is can he run a program?

Terry did interview, I was waiting to post until it became more official on the other candidates. It would be a great test for him as a coach. He has a great style and would love to see what he can do with D1 talent. TU would really get a high character, high class coach with a strong work ethic.

But make no doubts about it, if OU goes for Terry later on...that is his dream job.

I like hearing that. Like I said in a previous thread, I hope TE gets the job for both his and OU's sake. If he's successful at TU, he'll be a legit candidate when Kruger retires with 4-5 years experience. C'mon TU- take a chance!

Read a TW article this morning that suggests Manning is the front runner. I'd just REALLY prefer Terry Evans over him (and I do have reasons), and not just b/c he is an OU guy.

Article also said it might be official by Monday.

It looks like Top 2 are Manning and Evans. I don't know if they have interviewed the other candidates. TW did say Bryce Drew was an outside shot as well.

Manning has the advantage of coaching under Self and the connections. Which a lot D-I jobs are about.
Evans has the advantage of being a local guy with a recruiting line here and HC experience.

Manning is more likely to bolt, but Terry is a more proven head coach right now. Just depends on what Tulsa is specifically looking for.

And WT, not sure if you have something against Manning. But I have known Terry for 14 years and he really is a standup guy, so if you are on that front I am with you.

Drew will interview for the Mississippi State job, moving to TU really doesn't do much for him. Might as well stay at Valpo.

I don't know much about Manning, personally, or in depth. I just don't think he is as good of a fit as Evans is for TU. Several reasons for that. Experience. Age. The fact that Evans would probably stay longer. Style of play. And I'm always skeptical about coaches that have always been around top tier talent. Can Manning coach players that aren't on that KU level?

TU hires Evans, Evans flourishes, OU hires Evans once Kruger retires. Perfect scenario.

Evans has had nothing but success. He teaches the kids well, is a great leader and example...don't see how he won't flourish.

Let's hope if he does, OU doesn't miss out on a great coach a few years down the road to someone else.
