Terry Evans turned down Lamar? Why?

I don't know, but Guerin Emig implied it might be to pursue an assistant position with Kruger. It could also be a case where Lamar told him that he was no longer a candidate and are letting him save face.

I don't know that there'll be an opening for him on Kruger's staff. Word is, Kruger's bringing all of his UNLV assistants to Norman.

And in any case, he'd be better off, in my opinion, demonstrating that he can deliver the goods as a D-1 coach. If Evans is to be our head coach down the road, I'd rather see him hired after a successful stint at Lamar than promoted from an assistant position at OU.

I think he's thinking with his heart over his head. Going to another D-1 job as a head man makes him a more viable candidate for OU but he seems to have a genuine love for OU. So it makes sense for him to join the OU staff in an effort to turn around OU.

Which would pay more OU assistant or Lamar head job

He is either expecting a job on the OU staff or he thinks TU might open up.

Wrong in every way. Lamar's basketball facilities are worse than UCO's and no coach, including Billy Tubbs has won at Lamar.

Maybe he heard that an established, clean program at UNLV just had an opening for the head coaching position.

Billy recommended him for the Lamar position and would take exception to your comments DM.

it was dumb for him to turn down Lamar.

I thought Henson was not coming with him?

Of course Billy would recommend him. He's an ex player of his. It was an opportunity, but not neccessarily a step up.

while that sounds good...Billy did NOT recommend him for the OU job.

tubbs took Lamar to the NCAA tourney before going to OU

I hope Lon does not bring his entire staff. They did OK recruiting but did not set the world on fire in Vegas. Bring Terry Evans on to the staff. Shake it up a little bit.

Yup....took them to the Sweet 16. I believe it was in '79, the same year Bliss guided OU to the Sweet 16. Who knows if Lamar's fortunes would have been turned around had Coach Tubbs accepted Lamar's offer to return to his alma mater about 20 years ago. He was offered both the AD and basketball head coach position. I realize he finally rejoined them about a dozen or so years later when he was ready for retirement, but I wouldn't say it's impossible to win there.

As for Terry Evans, I'm not sure at this point if there is an opening on OU's staff or not. If there isn't, his decision to turn down the Lamar job would be be a strange one.
