Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.

The other seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, doubling what they currently receive in TV revenue.

Big 12 officials told member schools that the loss of the Denver television market and Nebraska would not weaken the league's negotiating position with TV networks as much as feared, a person with direct knowledge of discussions told The Associated Press.

Call me an idiot, or Homer Simpson, or whatever, but could someone please clearly explain to me how Texas will screw us, monetarily or on the field, in the next few years? If they decide to leave in 5 years no one will want OU then? We'll be severely crippled in a few years if this doesn't work, and why?

And, also explain to me how nicely and wonderfully we would have been treated on the West coast? Oregon, Washington, USC is going to be better for us? Miss those Pac-10 refs, I guess? All of a sudden we get mysterious new fans on the coast who hate Pac-10 teams and were just waiting for new blood so they could become a fan? We get new recruits who all of a sudden love OU because they live in LA and see us play and want to move to Norman?

How is this a Texas thing only, when Joe C has said from jump that he's gonna try to keep it together?

This isn't as much as a smartaleck, I've already made up my opinion so screw ya'll thing, as it is confusion. I would like someone to help me understand why this is so horrible. It wasn't horrible last year. We'll still play Nebraska. Miss CU that much? We'll get more money out of it. More money = better right? That's the argument so far, as I get it?

If the argument is all about how a college football landscape of 4 groups of 16 teams is great for us all, I don't buy it. It's great for TV network execs and advertisers, but goodbye Thursday night TU games on ESPN.

My guess is that people are mostly mad because they feel like Texas is calling the shots, and screw texas, just cause. Well, believe me, rest assured that is about nothing other than TV sets in DFW and Houston. They have more control in this because more people make the decision to live in those cities and watch UT football. If OKC and Tulsa had a few more million people in each city they'd have more power too. One drive around town during rush hour tells me I'll take a small quiet Oklahoma with less bargaining power over those crazy overfilled Texas cities any day.

I'll admit to being confused, too, Calaway. Apparently it would have been fine if we had followed texas to the Pac 10 or the SEC or wherever, but staying in the Big 12 because texas did? Catastrophe! Emasculating!

I was never excited about the prospects of joining either of those other conferences. I understood the draw of the money, but we're getting good money in this new arrangement, so that's covered.

I do wish Joe C. had been a bit less overt in touting his "cooperation" with texas.

You hit the nail on the head right there. It goes back to the old SWC days with Texas throwing their weight around.

If the money "promised" comes thru then it will be a good deal otherwise when the TV contract runs out in 4 years this will all be rehashed again.

It seems to me that whether we went to another conference or not, the possibility of rehashing all of this in a few years would still remain. Some would not like the new deal and would be tempted to make another move. Going to the SEC or Pac 10 would not solve all of the problems just like keeping this conference intact will not solve all of the problems.

Giving it time to settle in, this is my only real beef as well. We are OU, we should have been a little more prideful in our outward posturing and/or presentation. We let the story become all about Texas when we are arguably one of the Top 5-10 overall programs in the country.

to me it's not a matter of "Texas taking the thunder" ... I just see it as them placating us with money instead of solving the negative issues that exist with this conference alignment.

IMO this was a very near-sighted and greedy decision. I think they should have listened to the Nebbish AD's reasoning more and applied that logic.

I read today where all team signed a document committing themselves to the Big 12 for 10 years. That's very good news.

What is the penalty for breaking that commitment?

A billion dollars and 10 lashes from a wet noodle.

Re: Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State stay put in Big 12 - ESPN

Seems like a relevant question.

Re: Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State stay put in Big 12 - ESPN

I don't know the answer. I haven't seen the document. It's great that they've made that long-term commitment though.

What was the TV contract on the Pac-16?

I have no idea. I have no problem saying that. You know what you will not hear me say? "Ten billion dollars and a wet noodle."

I think that is what Prokhorov tried to offer Lebron

Penalty to leave the conference is $30 mil plus loss of revenues- very steep.
