Big Monday = Extra Rest + Extra Preparation Time

MONDAY: OU beats Iowa State

TUESDAY: OU gets a "day off" as there is no practice. The Sooners that played heavy minutes Monday night get extra time to rest. Injuries such as Khadeem Lattin's ankle get extra time to recover.

WEDNESDAY: While OU's next opponent (Kansas State) plays on the road at WVU Wednesday night, OU will get a head start in their preparation for Saturday's game at Kansas State. The OU players and coaches can also scout the KSU-WVU game on TV.

In addition, there is the "revenge factor" to give the Sooners an extra charge of motivation.

Lattin wasn't injured. He came back into the game. He was scared he was injured.

This is a great post but didn't we lose our last Saturday game (KSU) following a big Monday win vs Texas?

Last time I played black jack, I got 21 and that has zero impact on what my cards will be next time.

They taped Lattin's ankle before he went back in. He was limping a bit.

I really like the exposure of a national Big Monday win. Watching Sportscenter today the games was prominently featured. Great for recruiting, seedings, etc.

I don't disagree but I think we can all agree that longer than normal periods between games can be good and can be detrimental. Examples of each exist.

This team is playing more cohesive now than 3-4 weeks ago so I tend to agree with the OP that this extra prep time will be good.

I will add one more comment...KSU is a bad matchup for us for some reason. Lon is 1-4 vs KSU with Weber as the coach. His defense causes us issues.

So, that's another reason why I was devils advocate but believe me, I hope I'm wrong and we win Saturday.

Weber seems to do a good job of forcing Woodard to be our #1 scoring option in most sets. Thankfully Woodard has been playing well of late, and if he can find a rhythm early then that should open things wide open for everyone else.

While I like Traveler's logic, all we have to go on is recent memory. As another poster mentioned, after our lopsided win over Texas on Big Monday, we proceeded to lose 4 of 5. Still, they had better get used to having several days off in between games. They have a whole week off in a couple of weeks before a couple of great challenges to close out the regular season.

It really comes down to (1) putting the extra time to good use and (2) coming out with focus, energy and determination at the opening tip on Saturday night. Start fast. Start strong.

The extra preparation time for the KSU game should be an advantage, but the team needs to make it so. The team was mentally and emotionally ready to go against ISU with a quick turnaround.
