The New Lineup

I don't think she has a problem making three's at all, I think she is a very heady freshman, getting the ball to the established "gunners", knowing her time will come. She is so effective slashing and either laying it up or finding the open man, her out side shots will come with time. I'm just enjoying watching her grow right before our eyes. Only 3 games in as a starter and she has gone beyond my wildest dreams for a first year Sooner.

I can remember most fan saying the same thing about Campbell last year, Sherri has to find a way to use both our young stars better...

Also I think Manning is playing more at the 4 with Hand at the 3.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but I wonder why you think that? I haven't really seen anything that says that Hand or Maddie have any definitive position. I've seen both at the point, both on the wing, and both under the basket, mostly after shots. Since the opposition hasn't really had a true power forward, I can't tell who is covering their perceived bigger players, except that the task usually falls to Jo when she is in the game.

It's easy to tell that Morgan is more or less the point, Vegas is a shooting guard, Jo and Nicole Griffin are on the inside. But, the rotation for anyone else, other than Portia, is not all that clear, on offense or defense. It seems that Maddie, Sharane, Kornet, and Whitney rotate so much that you might ffind them anywhere. I tend to see Maddie guarding out front more than on the inside.

In the game vs Oregon one of the guys made it seem like Hand was playing the 4.

After the first game, Coach mentioned that Maddie was suddenly having to play at the 2 and 3 in addition to point guard.

It's sometimes hard to tell in our 4 out offense, but here's one solid clue. After the other team makes a basket, the player on our team that inbounds the ball is the 4.

Didn't know that.

Per Sherri on a KREF interview yesterday, when Maddie is in, Whitney is guarding the 4 on defense. On offense we play 4 out so there is no traditional power forward on offense.

If portia was a little further along, I think she would be the starting 4. Just an opinion. She has shown great promise, but I can see why Sherri isn't giving her more minutes. Her judgment regarding shot selection, switching on defense, and her inconsistent energy -- generally, has been inconsistent.

I couldn't find the hawaii games on the tube, so I haven't seen the new lineup in action. So, don't have an opinion yet. But, I liked Jo at the 4 OK. She looks improved to me.

But, like we have discussed before, I like all of our 10 players and sherri has been and will be mixing and matching them anyway, so I don't think starting is all that important. If you want minutes, you better perform in the game.

Maddie said in an interview posted on SoonerSports.com that she was playing the 3, which I feel is perfect for her. She does run the point, as all 1-4 can, but with our current lineup, I feel the 3 position is best for her. I wish Whitney were about an inch or two taller, but it will work out anyway.

I agree!
