Texas stands to earn between $20 million and
$25 million annually in television revenue in the reworked deal, including money from its own network, according to Orangebloods.com. Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.

The other seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, doubling what they currently receive in TV revenue.

Looks good to me... Keep it together, make more money, and have room to offer new teams in the future. Louisville? Memphis? TCU? Who knows, but they could attract some good teams.

Screw that.. I'm tired of Texas being in control.. New conference!

What network is funding this deal?

The network would be a revamped Big 12 network, if I'm reading the article correctly...

I just can't see a network shelling out that much cash for such a little tv market unless there is more to this deal.

I'm with you on this one h.a. This has all the makings of the old swc. Tuck Fexas :fexas-logo:

If you think we're going to waltz into the Pac 10 or the SEC and right away be anything remotely resembling top dog (or, if you prefer, Top Daug), you're likely to be very disappointed.

If it was this easy to come up with new plans for a BIG 12 network, how come it hadn't been brought up years ago?

I know and why not come up with this about 2 weeks ago when we could have saved the Big 12. Yes the 20 million we get from the 2 teams leaving helps, but that's 2 million dollars a team. Where's the other 15 million dollars per team coming from?

This is so dysfunctional that it doesn't make sense, and it has no chance of lasting that long. And the leadership at OU is pathetic in this deal.

OU should run from this deal as fast as they can.

18 years is how long we get locked up to receive that money from a network. 18 years stuck in the past while everybody else evolves.

Exactly. Going to the Pac-16, OU would be the #2 newcomer. You know the USC & UCLA's are going to be the top dogs.

Because what's key in most contract negotiations? Leverage. A better offer from someone else. Go into your bosses office right now and say..."if you don't give me more money I'm going to quit and no, I don't have another job lined up" or "give me more money...I want to stay but I have a better offer from our top competitor." See which one gets you more money.

Very skeptical about this. So the Big 12 could never get a good TV deal, but when the conference regresses to 10 teams it can get a deal as good as any conference in the country?

I'm not buying it.

Its the conference's mouths writing checks they can't back up. And Us and everyone else will be screwed in the end

Okay, great, then tell us about this great new Pac-16 TV contract that's been promised but never been done? There's a reason you never see the Pac-10 on TV except late at night for all these years....but now magically all that is going to change? How come there is no Pac-10 network now? I say let them develop the Pac-10 network and then invite other schools.

First off, take a chill pill. No need to get hostile.

Second, if you're trying to compare the Pac-16's failure to land a big TV contract to the Big 12's failure, you can't, since the Pac-16 doesn't exist. The Pac-16 hasn't even been created, but I'm willing to bet it presents a more attractive option then this deal that Beebe conveniently just now presented to the remaining Big 12 teams.

The Big 12 has had an awful TV deal for forever, and this is before it lost one of its more prominent markets in Denver, and one of its more relevant programs in Nebraska. I don't see how it can possibly form just as good if not a better deal then this hypothetical Pac-16 conference, considering the fact that the Big 12 has now regressed, and this Pac-16 will have 8 of the 20 largest TV markets in the country.

I could very well be wrong, we'll just have to see. For now, though, I'm very skeptical.

Last year the Big 12 had a 136 mil dollar TV deal. They've added about 30 million to that. I can't see how losing 2 pretty big markets.

Now that Texas controls OU's destiny, what happens in 4 years after the big conferences are finished with their expansion plans? Get ready to pay 40 bucks to watch OU play Idaho State. OU sold their soul to the devil. It will be interesting to see if Joe C ends up being the commissioner of the revised league at some point.
