The sad story of Delonte West

Sad, truly sad! He looked like he was already sick in that picture. I can't imagine how he must look now?

He's had a long history of mental illness. I seem to remember a story where Dallas signed him and he was still homeless until Mark Cuban found him a place to live.

It just goes to show that there are some problem money and talent can't solve.

Last I remember hearing about him he was working for a moving company a couple years ago. Guess he has never managed his life outside of playing basketball.

I am actually mad at the NBA for this.
They should be helping this man.

i get where you are coming from, but we don't know if they did try to help or if delonte even wanted help. And as sad as it is, the NBA can't make sure every player is taken care of.

It's more sad imo that none of his family or former teammates cared to help (assumption)

make someone feel bad for wanting another to receive help/
typical right
the "oklahoma standard" huh?

let's hope none of YOUR folks end up in a sanitarium.

exact same protectionist attitude that the NFL used to insulate itself from all the brain damage it has caused.

just keep up the selfish crap people. you've doomed this planet with it already.

lol come on man you are stretching.

If I have a disorder, I am not going to be pissed off at my company if they don't keep tabs on me and help me after I have left.

And this is nothing like the NFL...unless you tihnk what happens in the NBA caused his bipolar and mental disorders

As someone with a relative with a mental illness, this story hit pretty close to home with me....that's why I posted it when I came across it.

Candidly, I don't know all of the details surrounding his case, but it usually ends up being a fairly complicated issue when mental health is involved. I know it was with our family. In order for treatment and therapy to work, the person has to want to get better by being disciplined to a degree (taking their meds) and attending any therapy/support that has been made available to them. I'm certainly no bleeding heart and I don't know if Delonte had these alternatives available to him or not or what his choices were, but I would hope that someone or some entity would reach back out to him before he really hits rock bottom or worse. It's horrible to watch someone close to you go through this and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Delonte Wests problems were known long before this. this didnt just pop up.

Sometimes there isn't a person on earth that can help.
