As someone with a relative with a mental illness, this story hit pretty close to home with me....that's why I posted it when I came across it.
Candidly, I don't know all of the details surrounding his case, but it usually ends up being a fairly complicated issue when mental health is involved. I know it was with our family. In order for treatment and therapy to work, the person has to want to get better by being disciplined to a degree (taking their meds) and attending any therapy/support that has been made available to them. I'm certainly no bleeding heart and I don't know if Delonte had these alternatives available to him or not or what his choices were, but I would hope that someone or some entity would reach back out to him before he really hits rock bottom or worse. It's horrible to watch someone close to you go through this and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
