Think I want Capel to stay...

he didn't say much in the postgame conference. BBJ started to ask the question, but chickened out, capel kind of sighed but gave a coach speak answer. who's going to step up and ask the questions?

James Jail.

I agree with Gottlieb... they will fire him because nobody cares about OU basketball right now. Its dead. Recruiting is sour, the staff sucks, the gym is empty, and regionally/nationally nobody cares about OU.

Bringing the coach back is dangerous... you could fall further into the abyss and miss out on some good coaches in the process. You risk sucking again next year, and another year of suck would be horrible for the program.

This, this, this, this, this. I counted an average of about 250 students/game over the course of the season (excluding the free Baylor & Texas games). That is just embarrassing. By the end of the season, the student section was basically just the lower bowl and 5 rows in the upper bowl. I'll be honest, my high school had better games in terms of crowd support last year than OU had in some games this year. The apathy in this program is quite frankly startling. Out of all the college basketball games I watched on TV this year, I'd say OU was in the bottom 20% in terms of atmosphere (obviously excluding the Texas game which was an extreme aberration). From a newcomer's point of view, this program is on life support right now, but can be brought back with the right coach. I don't think Capel is that coach. I think he will eventually have a decent career somewhere else, but last year's fiasco was the worst thing that could have happened to him here at OU.

If I can see a big group of talent coming I would agree to keep him. But we really don't see that coming. Maybe Jurick, Goff, Guerrero or whoever we get is the answer. But I don't see it with this style. I think a big problem is Jeff still doesn't know what his style is.

Yep. And that is why last year was terrible for his OU career. Before last year's implosion, he was recruiting well enough so that we could still win games while he was learning to be a better coach. Now...not so much. But like I said, I still believe he will have a good career at another school. Just don't think it's going to work out for him and OU, which is sad, because he really does seem like a good guy. But it's best for both Capel and OU to move on at this point.

Would you mind explaining to me exactly what Jeff's basketball style/philosophy is?

lol Only in Oklahoma.

I never get the motion offense. It looks good if you have great shooters. Other than that it just looks like you are trying to pass around and hope something opens up and if it doesn't you just either turn it over or shoot something with the shotclock running down that has no shot.

What about defense? Did Bobby Knight run a motion offense at IU?

First, it requires motion, which seems to be the most difficult thing to teach. If you have motion, shooting and driving lanes appear.

Meanwhile, I see that the poll has it 73-68 to keep Capel. You would never know that from the threads.
