This may be the reason

"caught flat-footed"...sorry that is a laugh for what any OU administrator would have been witnessing the last couple of years.

I don't think we need to throw out the baby with the bath water. Just because on mid-major guy didn't work doesn't mean their are not any qualified ones out there.

If the annoucement takes awhile, it doesn't mean that Joe doesn't have his man. His man could be coaching in the tourny right now.

Sorry, but I just don't buy that he has a WOW coach already lined up.

That would be sweet

Well, one thing is for sure...if Geno came we would get plenty of publicity...

although, i think it would be a terrible hire and he would have even less time to build the program than most since he is a Women's Coach and will be scrutinized with every move he makes...

I can imagine the fans when we have a couple of bad seasons in a row under him...BRUTAL!

It could be that some BIG OU donors threatened to close their wallets if Capel was retained for another year. It could be that these BIG donors made their feelings clearly known in the last few days to the OU administration.

:OUbball-logo:

This is what I've been hearing since before the OState game. I have some contacts that are fairly well-connected (I didn't post it because I don't want to start rumors). I was told two weeks ago Capel was done, and that it was a decision made by "people other than Joe C."

That said, I doubt Joe was caught flat-footed. If what I've heard is true, he's known Capel was done for a couple of weeks.

Lawyer05! Where you been, bro?

Just got away from posting very often (as my post count reflects). I read the board periodically but rarely have anything to contribute that hasn't been said 15 times. How have you been?

That said -- I am ready for the start of the MLS season tomorrow. Although I have a feeling it could be another long one for our Fire. If so, everything out of the Fire front office says it will be time to sack the manager (and maybe Klopas too).

Honestly I can't believe they didn't can him after last year.

Guys I'm the "wow" guy they're referring to. Joe called me last night as I was changing my 8 month old's diaper and informed me that I would be the next head coach at OU. I mean, this has really taken me by surprise! I really don't know what to say or do I just... I just think it's unbelievable! My 10 yrs of IT experience along with very little organized BB sort of had me convinced my relationship with the University will continue to be as an alum and fan but it appears Joe's obsession with the "wow" has brought him to me!

So I accept Joe! Give me the keys buddy! What was Capel's overall record? 96-69 in 5 yrs? No problem. I know some peeps on the circuit but trust me, there's a few Y ballers I've met recently I think can really play and they'll be excellent additions to the staff.

When does the season start again?

You are correct. That explains why Joe looked uneasy at the press conference today.

The donor side is what I heard, so tell them to open the wallets even more because we have a buyout and need to pay someone more than 750k to start out. Btw, this was tough on Joe and boren. They like Capel but cannot have the money $$ people leave. Ps-make a big time hire and let's kick off the build a new stadium fund...

Joe C. tried to hit a home run with an assistant like he did with Stoops, but struck out. If you want OU BB on the front page, hire a big time coach and pay him what ever it takes.
