If he wants, Spangler has a chance at the NBA. He looks to have the defensive skills to guard a 2 or a 3 player. If so, there's a home for him. Occasionally, he's shown range on his shot and I bet he is better than Andre Roberson at this skill.
Shane Battier had a long career in the NBA. Kyle Singler's in the NBA. Lance Thomas is still playing. All were adequate ball handlers, nothing special. What they had or have was defensive tenacity, good court vision and a nose for the ball.
For Spangler to make it, he needs to work on his three point shot and next year with the possible luxury of three tall interior players Spangler might be allowed to stretch the defense occasionally with outside shooting. I think he could show the abilities to guard wing players.
