Thoughts on OSU RTC against us

I thought it was laughable, especially considering they made fun of us for doing it against Kansas.

To me it was the exact same thing as when OU beat OSU this year in football. OU fans stormed the field and OSU wasnt ranked...it was just an overtime win against your rival. Nothing wrong with it from either school.

That one gave us a conference championship. I think it is a little different.

I agree with the author of this from Grantland, funny but true. I don't understand why people get upset about kids having fun. To answer a few questions, there were plenty of kids on the floor after ISU and Baylor but not as many as against OU. Regarding free tickets, 600 student tickets were given away, they were season tickets that were paid for but never picked up.

A Complete List of Rules About When It's Appropriate for a Fan Base to Charge the Court

Requirement no. 1: The fan base's team must win. Otherwise, why are they charging? For violent reasons? Not cool. (Implied in requirement no. 1 is that there must also be a basketball game at the time of the charge, and the basketball game must be over.)

Requirement no. 2: THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT NO. 2. STOP BEING A FASCIST COURT-CHARGING POLICE TRIBUNAL, AMERICAN INTERNET PEOPLE. THESE ARE COLLEGE KIDS, AND THEY WANT TO HAVE FUN. THEY CAN CHARGE ANY DAMN TIME THEY PLEASE AS LONG AS REQUIREMENT NO. 1 IS MET. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER TO YOUR TWITTER ACCOUNT. FURTHERMORE, IF THEY CHOOSE TO CHARGE, I PROMISE THAT IT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR LIFE BEYOND THE OBVIOUS DISPLEASURE YOU FEEL WHEN YOU WITNESS OTHER HUMAN BEINGS EXPERIENCING JOY. SO STOP. STOP. STOP. STOP. LEAVE THEM ALONE, YOU OLD CURMUDGEONLY MEDDLERS. LEAVE. THE. KIDS. ALONE.

Seth Davis was giving Gottlieb a hard time about it (OSU rushing the court after beating an unranked OU when OSU was favored to win) on CBS after the Sunday game was over.

It has been so long since the students have had something to cheer about in basketball. That was the first experience for some of them in a sold out "rowdy" GIA. I really do think that was the main reason.

It's been so long! I think it had been almost 400 days since the students' last court-rushing. I think we have averaged about 1 court rushing per year since Eddie retired/got fired/whatever, but this is the first I remember against an unranked team. It's dumb to me, but YOLO, I suppose.

I didn't remember us storming the field, so I checked. A youtube search reveals that we didn't storm the field when we beat OSU in football. The fans stayed in their seats and applauded.

Talked to my brother in law who is a cowboy and went there during the Lucas/Graham/McFarlin days and he was quite embarrassed about it. Said the students there were probably attending their first basketball game of the season.

The one important difference being that OU FANS DID NOT STORM THE FIELD after beating OSU. What are you talking about?

OSU isn't OU's arch rival in football. The series is 83-17-7. Texas is a rival. Nebraska was a rival. Stoops is 11-3 in this game, pretty much right on pace with the historical trend.

Kansas has beaten OU 27 times. KSU has beaten OU 18 times. Tech has won 30% of its games against OU. A&M has won 39% of its games against OU. West Virginia has won 40% of its games against OU. TCU has won 33% of its games against OU. Missouri has won 28% of its games against OU (24 games), CU has won 31% of its games against OU (17 games). OSU performs worse against OU in football than virtually all of the schools in the Big XII and the old Big 8, the only exceptions are ISU and Baylor. Lets not elevate the OSU football program to something it is not. OU is OSU's arch rival. OSU's very existence is based on beating OU. However, it is funamentally wrong to say OSU is OU's arch rival. OSU is OU's whipping boy.

If OU goest 4-8 with a win over OSU are you going to take joy in beating that pathetic football team? Of course not. However, if OU was 4-8 but upset Texas or Nebraska you would be pretty happy about that win. A perfect example was 1996 when OU beat Texas and also beat OSU. Do you even recall the OSU game? I bet you remember the win over Texas.

Silly Aggie

Most OSU fans I have talked with were disappointed they stormed the floor.

I was wrong, I had thought the fans were on the field. Either way, you guys are right, the reaction of the OU coaches and players was pretty tame. I would have thought that OU had just beaten UCO or something, the way they just stood around going about their business. It certainly wasnt a reaction like they had just won a big game, what was I thinking.

Go back to trash talking college kids because they got excited about a big win, Ill stay out of the way.

I have literally no idea what this means, but I think now we are being criticized for no storming the field?

Edit: You can tell they aren't standing around. They are jumping around to the song jumping around.

It means that it looked to me that OU was pretty excited to win an overtime football game against OSU, nothing more. I was being sarcastic.

My main point was that it looked to me that after that game everyone in Norman seemed to be pretty fired up that OU won a game against an unranked team. I can certainly concede that OSU has been dominated in football throughout history against OU, but it seemed like OU seemed pretty excited to me to have beaten an unranked OSU team. If you dont see the similarities then fine, we can move on.

I definitely see the similarities, but I also see the differences. It's a matter of degrees. The action under discussion is rushing the court/field, which is viewed by most sports fans as something to be saved for rarefied occasions. OU fans didn't rush the field after beating oswho in football, but sure, they were excited.

And though they were excited by the win, they also didn't rush the field after beating oswho in the season's first bedlam hoops matchup.

See the difference? Excited? Sure. Rush the court as if it's your biggest win in years? Not so much.

OU also has never minted a medallion to be presented to all graduating students that commemorated a win over oswho. We are, undeniably, oswho's biggest game in every sport in every season. It's not really debatable. The reverse is simply not true.

Additionally, that win in Football was also winning a conference championship. It was a tie for the championship but the players still won a Big XII Championship and they deserve to be proud of themselves.

I cant argue with that, or what Skyvue said either, but we can also probably agree that storming the court in basketball happens way more than football. I watched Mike Stoops reaction after that game and it certainly seemed to me like he and everyone else got caught up in the moment. It happens.

Its just irritating to me when people are critical of the students, or any fans reactions after a big win. I was at the game, and when the students ran out on the court my first reaction wasnt positive...but that being said, I get it. After dealing with a half empty arena for the last 5 years there was a lot of build up for this game, as evidenced by the packed house. If the students choose to rush the court then I am not going to blame them.
