all three times OU had beaten the team that ultimately won it all. The last two times, OU ran the winner off the court in non-conference play. In 2002, OU beat Maryland 72-56. The year OU beat Villanova 78-55 on a neutral court. In 1988 OU had beaten KU twice, including an 8 point win on the road in Lawrence.

Perhaps this means nothing but it bugs me. OU has been so close three times in my adult life. I really hope I get to see OU win it all.

Good post, Denver!

We are officially the most successful college basketball program who has not won a title. We're first in NCAA Tournament victories (41) and tied for first in Final Four appearances (5). Illinois is our closest competitor for this particular title, but it is my belief that they'll be #1 in the next five years...because OU will win a title by then. I can just feel it!

I was too young to take in much of '88. But I was certain '02 was our year. That one hurt.

This year culmination was just depressing because it was the end of the careers for Hield, Spangler, and Cousins. 3 all-time favorites of mine.
