This shows the stats in conference play. http://www.soonersports.com/pdf9/4454410.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=31000

Derica is the ONLY player shooting a good percentage BTA. I'm not considering Gioya as she has been out so long. But, the others have to be considered. Is it even possible to have Gabbi, Maddi, and Peyton all in a slump at the same time? I honestly don't know if it is a slump but I don't know what else you would call it. It seems odd that all would sink into a shooting slump at the same time. That is really hurting us bad right now.

When you live by the 3, then you can also die by the three. Points in the paint seem to be a better strategy.

Peyton 344--310
Kaylon 000--000
Gioya 333--059
Gabbi 333--337
Maddie 414--316
Derica 317--357
Vivi 000--000

Again, three point percentages from last year and this year (not including the TCU game). Seems that Gioya, Maddie, and Peyton are down.

Teams have adjusted their D. Guard the 3 and play KK one on one. Since we are an avg. passing team, KK will get some but also plenty of TO's. She also can't play the whole game.

Against a zone, I would break KK up to the FT line. Against man I would also have her set some screens.

We made some 3 pt. shots, by passing inside out, but also had several bad passes.

They haven't really "adjusted". We have been having major trouble against the zone all year (actually for several years). It is because we cannot drive very well, so we sit on the outside, drive a few feet toward the inside, then come back out, drive a few feet around the arc, pass to another outside player, who sits on the outside, drives a few feet toward the inside, then comes back out, drives a few feet around the arc, passes to another outside player who sits on the outside, drives a few feet toward the inside, then comes back out, drives a few feet around the arc, passes to another outside player who ....... well you get the idea.

Then with just 3 to 4 seconds left on the clock, the guard with the ball forces an off balance shot toward the rim - and misses.

One way to beat the zone is to hit some outside shots and bring the opponent out of that zone. We are devoid of shooters this year - except KK and Vivi. And Derica when she gets to play.

By the way, KK already sets quite a few screens.

Here are the conference stats from last year to this year:

Peyton: 39%-27%
Gioya: 41%-11%
Gabbi: 31%-30%
Maddie: 38%-19%
Sharane: 41%-0%

Peyton is off 12 percentage points
Gioya is off but hard to consider because of her time off due to injury
Gabbi is about the same
Maddie is off 19 percentage points (off 50% from last year)
We are also missing Sharane's outside shooting

Peyton's outside shooting has been bad. Maddie's is terrible. Unless those two start shooting a respectable percentage, this team is going to struggle against good competition.

I can't remember a basketball team at any level having this much trouble consistently putting the ball through the net. Call it a slump, mechanics, confidence or whatever.

It's bad and ruining the season.
