TMG is sitting two rows in front of me

Curious. It is possible he can get cleared to play college ball again?

I know he played a little bit of pro ball but if he applied to the NCAA after sitting out an entire year I wonder if the NCAA would let him back. What would it hurt?

Nope it can't happen.

Well, hopefully he will stay alive, and life will finally bring him to a point that he gets into a learning mode( a willingness to learn). Still don't wish any ill will on the young man. Millions of guys like him all around us. Hope for his sake that he GETS IT someday.

I agree with you right up to the "millions of guys" part. There are millions with his mindset, but very, very few of them get a golden opportunity like he had, and all that he needed to capitalize on it, was to be humble and work hard. I hope he grows to understand what he blew off, and that he can use that to help other kids.

I agree. Some on here compared him to Marcus Dupree, in that they both were great players who were disillusioned by those close to them about playing professionally. Dupree's career was hurt due to a devastating knee injury, whereas TMG's had nothing to do with injury just a really bad decision.

I feel for the guy, but at the same time he is one of the reasons we are in this mess so I'm really questioning why I feel sorry for him.

True... Millions was just a figure of speech. There are alot more than the average fan really realizes though. Prisons in places like Cali/Baltimore/Detroit/etc are full of guys who had a chance in sports, but never even finished high school. Golden opportunities don't end in sports. Millions do miss opportunities by just not even taking advantage of a chance to live a normal life.

I understand your point though, and I agree.

Probably because you realize that life is so much bigger than sports, and even OU sports. You probably feel sorry for him because you watch tv daily, and you read the paper, and you see the tragic end to so many lives of young men who have alot of the same character issues as TMG. If you are like me, you realize that a guy from his background can go so far astray quickly, that he may not be able to come back. That alone makes a human being feel sorry for another, just realizing how messed up his mentality must be at this point in his life...

Of course I did alot of ASSuming for your thought pattern, but I know you to be a pretty level headed person from what I see you post, so I made some educated ASSumptions.:):)

You know, I think you summed it up perfectly. As you said, kids with his background don't get many chances so they need to make the most of the ones they get.

I'd like to see him go overseas to try and make some more money and maybe come back to states at some point. TMG would be well served to get hooked up with another ex-Sooner great, Hollis Price, and let Hollis direct him a bit. Both come from similar backgrounds and I'd bet Hollis would help him but TMG would have to help himself.

:clap:clap

Help was/is available. He just has to take advantage of it. Right now he is listening to the wrong people,IMO. He could also use a big attitude adjustment.

And that is the reason I have a hard time feeling sorry for him, anymore. At some point, no matter what your environment growing up, you have to take responsibility for your own place in life.

I know a kid who has an older brother in prison, and who could have easily made all sorts of bad decisions. Instead, he works in missions, uses his basketball skills to mentor younger kids, and spends all his time away from school, improving himself and the lives of other people. The only difference between him and TMG is that each day one of them decides to be a better person, and the other one doesn't.

absolutely no way.

Hollis and TMG aren't even close to being cut from the same cloth - similarity in origins or not.

No doubt. Hopefully he gets it together. Its still not too late. He is young, and there are world's of opportunity, even without a degree. If he fails in life, it pretty much will be on him. Opportunities are endless if he just changes his mindset. I'm pulling for him, and I believe he will make it. Of course that is just my mindset until it can't be that anymore. Praying for the kid.....

It's probably a stretch, but both come from poor inner-city backgrounds. I'm sure the similarity stops there because Hollis has a good head on his shoulders, but remember when Randy Moss was drafted by the Vikings? He hooked up with Cris Carter and Carter mentored him and helped him to keep his head screwed on. I believe Moss's long career in the NFL was helped by his association with Carter.

If Capel called Price and asked him to reach out to TMG and help the kid, as long as TMG is willing to accept the help and listen to Hollis, he would have a chance to be something.

That's all I'm saying.

As per usual, we agree again. I'm pulling and praying for him, I just don't feel sorry for him. I hope he makes it to a better place.

TMG and Tiny forever will be the poster boys for what can go wrong when you listen to the wrong folks, read your press clippings, and believe the individual is more important than the team.

Those guys were told from the time they were probably 7th graders that they were going to be NBA players. While HS coaches probably preached to them about hard work on the court and in the classroom while AAU coaches, uncles, friends of the family, etc. were preaching scoring points, getting what you can, and earning money.

It's a sad story for both of those guys; but one that every college recruited kid in the country better be wary of. I guarantee you TMG would trade five years off of his life to have been back on that court today wearing a Sooner uniform.

You can't tell me for a second that him and Tiny wouldn't like to go back to college, play ball for three or four years then make a run at the pros. Unfortunately as too many of us know you can't turn back the clock.

If only we knew back then, what we do now....

TMG has been listening to Vince Youngs uncle. Spoiled brat athlete syndrome.

So I know he got cut from his NBDL team. TMG is basically sitting at home doing nothing right now ?
