Tony Allen beat-up OJ Mayo over gambling debt

How can the coach and team do nothing? I would fine both guys. There is no excuse for teammates fighting in professional sports.

Who would you rather have teach O.J. Mayo a lesson about gambling and not paying up...Tony Allen or a Bookie???

Sounds like OJ was in the wrong on this one. The next game Allen scores 19 and OJ was sat out. I don't know what happened, but it sounds like a vet putting a rookie in his place.

Hey if he owes money and smarts off and wont pay, I say pop him one in the mouth.

Reminds me of when Stewie beat the hell out of Brian on Family Guy Screaming "where's my money"

I'm a huge Grizzlies fan (probably the only one on the planet) so naturally I keep up with them. I've read numerous quotes from many insiders today that Tony Allen is supposedly the one dude in the league to "never mess with".

Can any Poke fans provide some further insight on him? I didn't know he was always this crazy...

He has always been on my list of NBA dudes to not start a fight with......

:):)

As play said, don't mess with Crane Tech!! Tony Allen, Will Bynum, Sherron Collins...I wouldn't want to scrap with any of those guys.

This is ridiculous. These men are not in high school. They are making big money and have an obligation to act like professionals not just adults. I am a bit shocked that the majority of people see this as humorous, entertaining, no big deal, etc. I would be more than pissed if I were the coach, GM, owner, NBA Commissioner or even another player in the league. It makes the league look juvenille. You just don't get in a fist fight with a colleague.

Sounds like he is on the level of Stephen Jackson/Ron Artest crazy.

That was the word in Boston as well. Mayo should have known better than to taunt Tony.

If you are "adult" or "professional" enough to shake hands like a man and give your word with a bet.....

Then you are also "adult" and "professional" enough to have your ass beat for not honoring your word like a man and try to squelch on the bet.

Being in the NBA or any profession doesn't preclude anyone from personal accountability.

Seriously? So if a guy at work bets you $50 (that is probably fairly equivalent to a $1,000 for an NBA player) and won't pay, you get in a fight with him at work?

I understand what you are saying Denver. Most people see the NBA as a league full of thugs anyway, when in reality a simple internet research project would show that the NBA ranks lower than MLB, NFL, and pretty close to the NHL for player involvement with the Justice System.

Most don't care, or don't react to anything like this concerning the NBA, because they have already labelled the league, some fairly, others unfairly.

With that said, its hard to compare professional athletes to regular 9 to 5 Joe's. Just look at last year when you had Arenas and a teamate pulling guns on each other in the locker room after betting over 50k on a dice game.. Probably not going to see that at Chesapeake or your local Wal-Mart, between employees. These athletes who are making tons of money, come from poverty stricken backgrounds, violence, and ignorance. Just because you give them money, doesn't give them character.

No different than churches who give 300.00 gaming systems for Christmas, to poor, poverty stricken kids in their communities, only to see the games broken or pawned within days. Having money and nice stuff doesn't automatically = good morals/values.

Not sure why you are shocked that message board posters would joke about stuff like that. Heck, it is common on these boards to see people joking about suicide, murder, rape, etc..... Just the times we live in. Of course the owners should be upset, but as long as fans are willing to pay 50+ bucks for a ticket, guys like Mayo/Allen will continue to make tons of money, and rich owners who make even more will continue to give them 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances..... Signs of the times....

In the case of Sidney and Bailey's altercation, and Bailey stuck his foot out...I would be the better man and just go out the other way.

if the guy didn't pay me the $50(in which I would have paid him) and then started taunting me...A lesson would be taught.

This is for Tony Allen :clap
