Trade Deadline

I actually think OKC did pretty good, for once. Not usually a fan of the moves they make, but today's was good for them.

The Thunder added 3 things they really needed.

Proven post scorer. Kanter averages 13 points per game and is primarily getting that from the post. He is a big upgrade over what the Thunder had. Now this will open up Ibaka to potentially be more a perimeter player that he's basically been.

DJ Augustine is an upgrade over Reggie Jackson overall. Augustine is probably the better defender, better point guard. And has just as good of offensive numbers when he's started for Detroit. Most of all he's a true point off the bench. Something the Thunder really haven't had since Maynor was healthy.

The Thunder also added more scoring off the bench and a lot more shooting. The only thing that can really be a negative here is that they basically have 4 guards basically playing the same role of jump shooter off the bench with Morrow, Lamb, Singler and Novak.

Agree on all except for the last point. Lamb will never play. Hell he wasn't getting any minutes even during blowouts until last night b/c we were shorthanded. Novak may see time during blowouts b ut I don't think he will see much. I think singler will play quite a bit.

I think the only negative is Perk leaving. He was a good presence and although his defense is declining, he did bring a toughness.

But man this team is loaded. It will be interesting to see what Brooks does with all of these pieces. I'm most interested in how gets more minutes b/t singler and morrow

RW-DJ
Roberson-Waiters
KD-Morrow-Singler
Ibaka-Collison-Mcgary
Kanter-Adam

I've always like DJ and I"m pretty excited he is here. I think he is exactly what the thunder need in in a backup pg. I'm stoked to see the offensive potential of this team.....especially with a lineup of DJ and RW on the court at the same time with KD, ibaka and kanter. wow

Kanter is probably slightly better defensively than Perkins now. I'm not sure he's as good as Adams is defensively which is why we may see a healthy Adams start when he gets healthy. But Kanter will get his shot to make a statement and be the guy at center right away.

Stolen from another board:

This is the Harden situation 2.0, and Presti has been right to make the moves both times. Here's the deal: The winners in the NBA going forward, are going to be those who have roster flexibility. Roster flexibility is unfortunately very difficult in a league where 2 players can eat up 60% of your cap-space, and where you need 2 of those players to have any shot at winning a championship. Notice that Presti has always flipped a guy for more pieces than he gave away. OKC now has useful pieces that can be signed to longer term deals or rented for a period of time: Harden turned into Martin, Lamb, Adams, and McGary. Could have left for nothing. Green turned into Perkins who, coupled with Reggie, has now turned into Kanter, Augustin, Singler, and Novak. So essentially we've traded 3 major wing players and Perkins for Adams, McGary, Kanter, and Augustin. Considering the front court used to be headed up by Aldrich and Kristic, I think Presti has overall made moves that work reasonably well in the short term (3 WCF appearances in 4 years), and that give us flexibility and good solid pieces moving forward. So again, when we give Kanter a 4 year $52M contract, don't be so quick to throw Presti under the bus…You never know when you're going to have to trade a brilliant draft selection because they ended up being way better than their late 20s pick should have been…and when you do, you better hope you have an expendable piece that you can demand teams take in order to get good value in return.

No. NOt really even close. The potential is there as perk is on the decline and kanter is only in his third year i believe but no. Unless you can show me some metrics showing this I just can't believe it. Especially listening to the play by play guy from the jazz. He pretty much laughed at our media when they asked if Kanter can play a defensive role.

What is funny? The fact that I don't usually like their moves? Most things I've read in the past tend to agree with my line of thinking on past OKC trades. And they've managed to turn KD/Westbrook into what, one Finals appearance and no championships?

Lol.

Anybody that knows the mba knows presti is one of the best minds. He knows how to build a team. Which moves did you not like?

They have made one finals and I think the conference finals the last three of four years. That is including Losing westbrook for one playoffs and serge for the next

I'm not sure I'd go along with Presti knowing how to build a team. The cupboard isn't all that stocked.

Kanter could be the missing link to a dynasty. They have the rest of this season to decide if he's worth matching close to a max offer which he will probably receive from somebody.

Perkins going to the Cavs is huge. You can see an epic showdown in the playoffs brewing between the Cavs & Bulls. That & Curry vs Westbrook are going to be off the charts. Get your popcorn ready.

For a 14 and 8 guy?

For a 14 and 8 guy?

A 22 year old 14 & 8 guy who was playing next to Favors who didn't compliment him. On the right fit he probably turns into 17-10 and yeah that's max territory for a guy his size and age.

I think you let somebody else take on that risk.

Of course I often chuckle at some of the "max" players requesting "max" deals in today's NBA.

I don't see how the Thunder will be able to afford Kanter and the rest of their guys.

But I've got to give Presti a ton of credit. He had let the cupboard get pretty bare last season and the beginning of this year, but they have substantially upgraded the roster without leveraging the future. He's done a great job.
